League Rules
1919 AJ League1. Basic Pitch: This is a non contract league based on the 1919 season. Each owner will have 2 teams, both selected in a draft where your pick in one league is the reverse of your pick in the other league.
You may not trade players between your teams. This is a boot-able offense.
2. How are players acquired?
First season USED? 1919
Minimum AB/IP? 50 AB, 20 IP, for the first season. Stats will be doubled after the first year. Afterwards, 100 AB and 25 IP will be the minimums for importing and stat changing.
Duplicate players are allowed in Season 1, but not in import cohorts: a player goes where he has the most IP or AB during his import season. Once assigned, a player is yours until you cut him, trade him, or don’t include him in your best 22 players.
ANY ISSUE ABOUT WHICH TEAM A PLAYER BELONGS ON MUST BE RAISED PRIOR TO THE FIRST GAME, OR THE RIGHT TO APPEAL IS WAIVED. Once a player “suits up” for a game, he belongs to that team.
3. Updating personnel:
Progressions: type: Unpredictable. Plateau range: 28 - 30. 31 begins regression.
Note: For 1930- 1945, the plateau will be 28 - 31. For 1946 - 1980, the range will be 28 - 32. From 1981 - 2000, the range will be 29 - 32. From 2001 on, it will be 30 - 33.
Imports and Minimums? Season 1: 20 IP, 50 AB. After: 25 IP, 100 AB.
Stat changing? Yes. Minimums to change: 25 IP, 100 AB. Once games start, if a player is caught having stat-switched to a year where the minimums are not met, the player will be removed from the league for the season, and will only return if imported. I make a distinction between an owner turning himself in before games start, and the Commissioner or another owner catching him during the season.
Trades?Yes, but not between your teams. No trades, or waivers, after game 140 and before the end of the World Series.
“Anyone can question the fairness of a trade, and forward a review request to the trade review committee. I will select the members of this committee, and majority rules. If for some reason there is a tie (as with an abstention), the Commissioner will break the tie. The Commissioner will oversee the performance of this committee. Requests to have trades reviewed must be made within 1 week or 20 games from the trade, whichever comes first.”
DRAFT: During the offseason, after imports, you can select 22 players to keep (no more, no less). You do this by signing them to a 1 year contract: when I advance contracts, the others will be washed into the Free Agent pool. 6 rounds is usually enough, although in the first 5 years there may not be enough players to warrant a draft this long. We will be working towards 6 rounds. (Waiver claims will follow once the season starts.)
Draft order will be based upon presumed team strength. PC’s impression of team strength will be calculated when everybody is down to 22 players. You are expected to keep 22 players; if you keep fewer than 22, you will automatically be given a draft slot AFTER all the teams who kept 22 players.
Note that when games begin, you must have enough players of the right type for sims to run. This would be 11 position players and 9 pitchers. If you don't have these minimums, your team's sims won't run, and you will forfeit games until you do (yes -- we will do waiver claims once the season begins.).
4. League set up, number of games, rotation size, injury length, and roster size:
2 8-team leagues. 154 game season until 1961. Beginning in 1962, we will play a 162-game season. 4-man rotations until 1974; in 1975 we will move to a 5-man rotation. Injuries: 10/15 (H/P). Rosters will be 26/9, once the draft arrives.
5. Playoffs:
In the event (hopefully unlikely) that 1 team ends the regular season with a 15 game, or greater, lead in the standings (over the 2nd place team), this regular season champion is declared the World Series Champion, and its' owner receives the ring. Otherwise, playoffs will occur, and the ring will go to the Manager of the Year.
6 of the 12 teams (the 1st division) makes the playoffs. The regular season champion gets an automatic bid to the World Series. In the first round, Team 5 hosts Team 6 in a best-of-1 series. Reseeding - in round 2, 2 hosts 5, and 3 hosts 6 in a best of 3. Reseeding: Round 3, the Wild Card Finals sees 2 host 3 in a best-of-5 series, and the World Series is best-of-7.
Rules about ties for a playoff spot:
A wild card team never hosts a series against a non-wild card team.
If teams tie for a playoff spot:
⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker. Run differential is the 2nd tie-breaker.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)
In addition to a Cy Young and a MVP Award, there will also be a Manager of the Year Award given to the owner with the best combined record. In the event that some owners own more teams than some other owners, it will be the best combined winning percentage.
MY BASIC EXPECTATIONS OF EACH OWNER:
⇒ Your commitment is season to season. When you join, you will be expected to actively run your team until the end of the season, which is when the regular season ends for non-playoff teams, or when your playoff team is eliminated. If you quit mid-season without my blessing, I will share this information with other commissioners.
⇒ Actively running your team means that you read messages once per day, meet all deadlines, and communicate any difficulties to the commissioner.
⇒ I will provide a minimum of 48 hours between a posting of a deadline, and the deadline. Ignorance of the deadline will not be an excuse for failing to meet the deadline.
⇒ If you will be away, and unable to get your messages, give the commissioner advance notice. Inactivity for ten (10) days, or repeated failure to meet deadlines, may result in your being booted from the league.
⇒ Every owner is expected to field a team (9 pitchers and 11 fielders) every game. Failure to do so, making the sims not run, results in a forfeit.
⇒ Read and be familiar with the rules immediately upon joining: it may affect your desire to be in the league, or your desire to pick a certain team.
Please keep all conversations clean
Please don't be rude to fellow owners
Please be active, if not active for 14 days you may be removed from the league

General rules:
Each offseason, you can switch a SP to RP, or a RP to a SP, but stamina will remain “as is.”. You can change it back the next offseason if you like, but no changes between first pitch and the last out of the World Series.
You can switch a player’s primary and secondary positions if they played 50% or more games THAT season at their secondary position, or at least 25% of their games for their career at their secondary position.
During an offseason, a player can be switched to the position they played most in their career, regardless of the requirements of General Rule #2.
You can switch a DH to his secondary position, as long as he has a fielding percentage.
Off season duties:
After season 1, double the stats.
Unpredictable progression after world series.
Imports: You get all the imports from the next season that are not already in the league (25 IP/100 AB minimum)
Stat changes: unlimited with minimums for importing (25 IP/100 AB minimum)
Sign 22 players to protect them from the draft.
Stat changing is turned off. Team strength is then calculated by Pennant Chase.
Draft (working toward 6 rounds).
