League Rules
New Rules1. Basic Pitch: I enjoyed creating the Babe Ruth Little League, League, because it provided an opportunity to re-familiarize myself with the neighborhoods of my home town. However, after a season or two, I did not know where to go with it. Dr. Watson, er, Rosilver, prodded me in the direction of an exit strategy.
Beginning with a particular year, league members will draft two teams, merge them into one, and receive both teams’ imports going forward.
Some answers to some basic questions:
It is a non-contract league.
Members will have one team in the league, which, again, is comprised of two major league franchises.
Your team will use the team name provided to you. You must keep the location in your name (like ‘Erlton’ or ‘Green Haven’). If you want to change the logo, you may, but you are limited to a major league baseball team’s logo, or those provided by pennant chase: the angry pig, the jet, the dancing cowboy, etc. You may change your mascot, if you like, but the new team name must be that of a major league baseball team, or be descriptive of a PC-provided logo. In other words, your team name, as provided to you, might be the “Erlton Eagles”. You must keep “Erlton” in the name, but you could be the “Erlton Cardinals”, if you like, or the “Erlton Learjets”, if you choose that logo.
What year do we start with? I will tell you when I know how many people join the league. If 10 people join, for example, a year before 1962 isn’t going to work.
The teams will be picked by draft in snake style: Whoever picks first will also pick last. And the last shall be first.
2. How are players acquired?
You get all the players on your drafted teams in the beginning year with 35 IP and 100 AB. You will also get both team’s imports with 35 IP and 100 AB. Duplicates will be allowed in the first year, but not in ensuing years.
ANY ISSUE ABOUT WHICH TEAM A PLAYER BELONGS ON MUST BE RAISED PRIOR TO THE FIRST GAME, OR THE RIGHT TO APPEAL IS WAIVED. Once a player “suits up” for a game, he belongs to that team.
3. Updating personnel:
Unpredictable progression. 30 - 32 is the plateau.
1 stat change per year.
Trades will be allowed, since we will all be playing with the same season(s).
Anyone can question the fairness of a trade, and forward a review request to the trade review committee. BabeRuth21, 54Pete54, and Rosilver will be the members of this committee, and majority rules. If for some reason there is a tie (as with an abstention), the Commissioner will break the tie. The Commissioner will oversee the performance of this committee. Requests to have trades reviewed must be made within 1 week or 20 games from the trade, whichever comes first.
Free agents/waivers will exist, in place of a draft. These will run beginning on day 1, so rosters must be at limits (or below) before game 1. The Commissioner is empowered to make those before Game 1, if necessary.
4. League set up, number of games, rotation size, injury length, and roster size:
There would be 162 games. A 5-man rotation will be used. Injuries will max at 5 for an everyday player, and 8 for a pitcher.
26/40 (26/14) will be the roster size.
League set-up will be based on the number of owners and teams.
5. Playoffs: TIn each division, 5 teams make the playoffs. The 4 wildcard teams play best-of-3 series until one wild card team remains to play a best-of-7 series at the regular season champion. The winner of that best of 7 series advances to the World Series.
Rules about ties for a playoff spot:
A wild card team never hosts a series against a non-wild card team.
If teams tie for a playoff spot:
⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker. Run differential is the 2nd tie-breaker.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)
MY BASIC EXPECTATIONS OF EACH OWNER:
⇒ Your commitment is season to season. When you join, you will be expected to actively run your team until the end of the season, which is when the regular season ends for non-playoff teams, or when your playoff team is eliminated. If you quit mid-season without my blessing, I will share this information with other commissioners.
⇒ Actively running your team means that you read messages once per day, meet all deadlines, and communicate any difficulties to the commissioner.
⇒ I will provide a minimum of 48 hours between a posting of a deadline, and the deadline. Ignorance of the deadline will not be an excuse for failing to meet the deadline.
⇒ If you will be away, and unable to get your messages, give the commissioner advance notice. Inactivity for ten (10) days, or repeated failure to meet deadlines, may result in your being booted from the league.
⇒ Every owner is expected to field a team (9 pitchers and 11 fielders) every game. Failure to do so, making the sims not run, results in a forfeit.
⇒ Read and be familiar with the rules immediately upon joining: it may affect your desire to be in the league, or your desire to pick a certain team.
Please keep all conversations clean
Please don't be rude to fellow owners
Please be active, if not active for 14 days you may be removed from the league
We all love baseball and that's why we're here. So Just have fun and enjoy!
General rules:
Each offseason, you can switch a SP to RP, or a RP to a SP, but stamina will remain “as is.”. You can change it back the next offseason if you like, but no changes between first pitch and the last out of the World Series.
You can switch a player’s primary and secondary positions if they played 50% or more games THAT season at their secondary position, or at least 25% of their games for their career at their secondary position.
During an offseason, a player can be switched to the position they played most in their career, regardless of the requirements of General Rule #2.
You can switch a DH to his secondary position, as long as he has a fielding percentage.
Off season duties:
Empty the free agent pool
Unpredictable progression after world series. Plateau range: 30 - 32
Imports: You get all the imports from the next season that are not already in the league (35 IP/100 AB minimum)
1 Stat change per year
Cuts to a certain roster limit. 26 Major league, 14 minor league.
Turn drops and trades on
Opening Day/Waivers
Elastic Clause: I reserve the right to create new rules as necessary to deal with problems as they arise.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
