League Rules
1971 2-for-1 Sale LeagueBasics: This is a non-contract league. You pick a 1971 MLB team upon entering – one that exists before expansion, and one that is not named “Yankees”. The first season is 1971. The second season is 2 seasons, one going forward (1972), and one going backward (1970): it’s your 1971 team, with the 1970 imports in one league, and your 1971 team with 1972 imports in the other league. At most 14 owners.
2. How are players acquired? You get all the players on your 1971 roster with 20 IP or 50 AB. Duplicates will be allowed during the first season, although I will try to weed those out when convenient (i.e. Jim Smith plays for LAD and BSN, but gets cut by BSN. I will delete Jim Smith from the free agent pool.)
In season 2, you also get the players on your 1970 roster (for the backwards league) and your 1972 roster (for the forwards league) with 30 IP or 100 AB. The backwards league (1970) has priority for imports over the forwards league (1972), and I do them first.
ANY ISSUE ABOUT WHICH TEAM A PLAYER BELONGS ON MUST BE RAISED PRIOR TO THE FIRST GAME, OR THE RIGHT TO APPEAL IS WAIVED. Once a player “suits up” for a game for a particular team, he belongs to that team.
3. Updating personnel:
Progressions: will be unpredictable, and plateau from 29 - 33; 34 will be the first year of decline.
Stat changing will be allowed. 100 AB and 30 IP are the minimums. If you have illegal players during the season, they will be removed from your team. If you catch and report yourself before the first game of the season, changes will be made to allow you to keep your player. Stat changing must be done by the time cuts are due: NO EXCEPTIONS!
Opening Day rosters: Every season, after imports, owners will be required to cut their rosters down to 26/40 (including imports) by Opening Day. Owners who fail to meet this deadline will have their cuts made by the Commissioner.
Waiver Claims : No. You can’t have a 1975 player on your 1967 roster; waiver claims will be impossible to police.
Trades: Trades are allowed, without maximum, between teams from the same year (same league: both from the backwards league, or both from the forwards league, but not one of each), and not between your 2 teams.
Anyone can question the fairness of a trade, and forward a review request to the Commissioner. The Commissioner will form a trade review committee from the league membership. If for some reason there is a tie, the Commissioner will break the tie. The Commissioner will oversee the performance of this committee. Requests to have trades reviewed must be made within 1 week or 20 games from the trade, whichever comes first.
4. League set up, number of games, rotation size, injury length, and roster size:
In each league (forward and backward) there will be a National Division and an American Division. The champions of each division will meet in a World Series and receive a trophy. The Manager of the Year, the person whose 2 teams have the best combined record, earns The Ring.
Expect a 4-man rotation in both leagues, and a 162-game schedule. Injuries will be 5 days for everyday players and 8 days for pitchers.
Rosters will be 26/14, to help alleviate the concerns raised by no draft nor waivers. The league will exist as long as there are enough players to run the Backwards League.
5. Playoffs: The playoff procedure will be finalized once we know how many teams are in the league.
The 1971 season will be simple: 1 Regular season champion from each division, and 4 wild card teams from each division. The wild card rounds are best-of-3. Round features 2 vs 5, and 3 vs 4, in each division. Round 2 features 2 vs 3 in each division. Round 3 is the LCS (best-of-7). The World Series features the NL and AL champion.
In Season 2, within each league (like 1970 and 1972) the rules and play is the same as 1971. Trophies will be awarded to the champions of each season (for 1970 and 1972). With the exception of 1971, The Ring goes to the Manager of the Year.
Manager of the Year Award will be given to the owner with the best combined record. In the event that some owners own more teams than some other owners, it will be the best combined winning percentage. MVPs and Cy Young Awards will not be issued.
Should the number of teams be different, these rules will be changed.
Rules about playoff spots:
A wild card team never hosts a series against a non-wild card team.
If teams tie for a playoff spot:
⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker. Run differential is the 2nd tie-breaker.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)
MY BASIC EXPECTATIONS OF EACH OWNER:
⇒ Your commitment is season to season. When you join, you will be expected to actively run your team until the end of the season, which is when the regular season ends for non-playoff teams, or when your playoff team is eliminated. If you quit mid-season without my blessing, I will share this information with other commissioners.
⇒ Actively running your team means that you read messages once per day, meet all deadlines, and communicate any difficulties to the commissioner.
⇒ I will provide a minimum of 48 hours between a posting of a deadline, and the deadline. Ignorance of the deadline will not be an excuse for failing to meet the deadline.
⇒ If you will be away, and unable to get your messages, give the commissioner advance notice. Inactivity for ten (10) days, or repeated failure to meet deadlines, may result in your being booted from the league.
⇒ Every owner is expected to field a team (9 pitchers and 11 fielders) every game. Failure to do so, making the sims not run, results in a forfeit.
⇒ Read and be familiar with the rules immediately upon joining: it may affect your desire to be in the league, or your desire to pick a certain team.
Please keep all conversations clean
Please don't be rude to fellow owners
Please be active, if not active for 14 days you may be removed from the league

General rules:
Each offseason, you can switch a SP to RP, or a RP to a SP, but stamina will remain “as is.”. You can change it back the next offseason if you like, but no changes between first pitch and the last out of the World Series.
You can switch a player’s primary and secondary positions if they played 50% or more games THAT season at their secondary position, or at least 25% of their games for their career at their secondary position.
During an offseason, a player can be switched to the position they played most in their career, regardless of the requirements of General Rule #2.
You can switch a DH to his secondary position, as long as he has a fielding percentage.
Off season duties:
Empty the free agent pool
SEASON 1: Double stats.
Unpredictable progression after world series. Plateau range: 30 - 32; 33 begins regression.
Imports: You get all the imports from the next season that are not already in the league (30 IP/100 AB minimum) The backwards league (1970) has priority for imports over the forwards league (1972), and I do them first.
Stat changes: 100 AB/30 IP minimum to switch. Send me the list by the due date I post.
Cuts to a certain roster limit: 26/14. FAILURE TO CUT TO 26/14 BY OPENING DAY WILL RESULT IN THE COMMISSIONER MAKING THE CUTS FOR YOU. Please: either make the cuts by the deadline, ask for a reasonable extension of the deadline in advance, or accept the cuts I make as the just and expected result of not choosing one of the first two options.

Elastic Clause: I reserve the right to create new rules as necessary to deal with problems as they arise. I have never tried something like this before, and the platform may not interface well with the plan.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
