League Rules

NEW RULES:

This league uses real progression, but the players you have stay with you until you trade them or until they stop playing in the majors.

How are players acquired?

We will draft 2 teams from the 1905 season, and merge them into 1 team. This way there won’t be an issue with the number of pitchers and catchers. Your team will use the city of one franchise, and the team name of the other franchise. If you picked the Seattle Mariners and the Colorado Rockies, you will either call yourself the Colorado Mariners or the Seattle Rockies (your choice). Otherwise, I will choose a name for you, like the Wichita Wildcats. You will get all the players on your team's rosters with 30 IP or 100 AB.

Are duplicate players allowed? Yes, on the initial rosters. If an import plays for 2 teams, he will go where he played the most (AB or IP)

ANY ISSUE ABOUT WHICH TEAM A PLAYER BELONGS ON MUST BE RAISED PRIOR TO THE FIRST GAME, OR THE RIGHT TO APPEAL IS WAIVED. Once a player “suits up” for a game, he belongs to that team.

3. Updating personnel:

Progressions: type: Real

Imports: you will receive every player from your next season’s roster that is not already in the league, but the same requirements of ownership and use will be in play, and a player goes to the team where he played the most.

There are no stat changes, because everybody gets stat changed every year (the beauty of real progression.).

Trades permitted. Waiver claims, too. Rosters will be 26/36 (or 26/10)

4. League set up, number of games, rotation size, injury length, and roster size:

1 8-team league, 154 games to start until expansion occurs. 4-man rotations until 1975, when 5-man rotations begin. Rosters will be 26/10. Injuries will be 5/8 .

5. Playoffs:

If the regular season champion has a 10 game lead, or better, at the end of the regular season, then that regular season champion is the league champion.

Otherwise, there will be 4 wild card teams, and they will play best-of-3 series until 1 wild card team remains, and that team challenges the regular season champion in a best-of-7 world series.

Rules about ties for a playoff spot:

A wild card team never hosts a series against a non-wild card team.

If teams tie for a playoff spot:
⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker. Run differential is the 2nd tie-breaker.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)

MY BASIC EXPECTATIONS OF EACH OWNER:

⇒ Your commitment is season to season. When you join, you will be expected to actively run your team until the end of the season, which is when the regular season ends for non-playoff teams, or when your playoff team is eliminated. If you quit mid-season without my blessing, I will share this information with other commissioners.

⇒ Actively running your team means that you read messages once per day, meet all deadlines, and communicate any difficulties to the commissioner.

⇒ I will provide a minimum of 48 hours between a posting of a deadline, and the deadline. Ignorance of the deadline will not be an excuse for failing to meet the deadline.

⇒ If you will be away, and unable to get your messages, give the commissioner advance notice. Inactivity for ten (10) days, or repeated failure to meet deadlines, may result in your being booted from the league.

⇒ Every owner is expected to field a team (9 pitchers and 11 fielders) every game. Failure to do so, making the sims not run, results in a forfeit.

⇒ Read and be familiar with the rules immediately upon joining: it may affect your desire to be in the league, or your desire to pick a certain team.

Please keep all conversations clean
Please don't be rude to fellow owners
Please be active, if not active for 14 days you may be removed from the league
We all love baseball and that's why we're here. So Just have fun and enjoy!

General rules:

Each offseason, you can switch a SP to RP, or a RP to a SP, but stamina will remain “as is.”. You can change it back the next offseason if you like, but no changes between first pitch and the last out of the World Series.
You can switch a player’s primary and secondary positions if they played 50% or more games THAT season at their secondary position, or at least 25% of their games for their career at their secondary position.
During an offseason, a player can be switched to the position they played most in their career, regardless of the requirements of General Rule #2.
You can switch a DH to his secondary position, as long as he has a fielding percentage.

Off season duties:

Real progression after world series.

Check for, and remove, players with too few AB or IP.

Imports: You get all the imports from the next season that are not already in the league

No Stat changes

Draft of free agents (generally 1 round. Any owner can ask for additional round(s)).

Cuts to a certain roster limit. (26/10)

Turn drops and trades on

Opening Day

Owners will be given a day’s grace (24 hours from first pitch) to fix their rosters; after 24 hours, and after game 2, any team that is over roster limits will be trimmed by me. I can trim them by any process I choose, but I cannot leave you with fewer than 9 pitchers, or 11 position players when I am finished (i.e. I cannot cause a forfeit.)

Elastic Clause: I reserve the right to create new rules as necessary to deal with problems as they arise.

OLD RULES:

Basic Pitch

I have often thought, if not said, that classic progression leagues really skew stats badly, and favor teams with a lot of 21 year olds. I have also objected to real progression leagues where you get the team’s actual roster each year: If you’re in a league where you could have the 1901 Cubs, then that roster is replaced with the actual 1902 Cubs, then you should know the outcome of every season: at least, if your team finished in last place in the NL in 1901 and 1902, you can mail it in until 1903 starts.

This league uses real progression, but the players you have stay with you until you trade them or until they stop playing in the majors.

Each person has 1 AL and 1 NL team. Your AL team selection is the reverse of your NL team selection.

2. How are players acquired?

We will start with the 1902 season (some teams didn’t have enough players to use 1901.)

Ownership v. Use: You hold title to all the players on your team’s 1902 roster, even if there are duplicates in the league, and you keep those players until: a) you trade or cut them; or b) you lose them because they did not play MLB that season. When this happens, you lose title to a player, and he becomes the property of whichever real team uses him next.

USE: You get to use a player that has 50 AB or 20 IP. If a player belongs to you, but does not meet these minimums, he goes to your holding team. In the event that without these players, you cannot field a team, the Commissioner reserves the right to approve the promotion of these players to the ML squad on a case-by-case basis, to reduce or eliminate “freaks” who could unfairly interfere with the competitive balance of the league.

There are no stat changes, because everybody gets stat changed every year.

You can trade players, but not between your own teams.

There will be waiver claims once the season starts, as long as there are players in the free agent pool.

4. League set up, number of games, rotation size, injury length, and roster size:

2 8-team leagues, 154 games to start until expansion occurs. 4-man rotations until 1975, when 5-man rotations begin. Rosters will be 26/9. Injuries will not exist ab initio (although fatigue does), until such time as the number of players on rosters are sufficient to cover any injury.

5. Playoffs:

In the NL, or in the AL, if the regular season champion has a 10 game lead, or better, at the end of the regular season, then that regular season champion has an automatic World Series bid: wild card standings are irrelevant in that league.

16 teams: 2 8-team leagues. 2 regular season champs, who get byes until the LCS. 4 wild cards per league, who play best-of-3 playoffs until one remains to go to the LCS

20 teams: 2 10-team leagues. 1 regular season champion, and 4 wild card teams per league. The wild card teams play best-of-3 series until 1 is left, and that team plays the regular season champ in a best-of-7, followed by the World Series. The regular series champ gets byes until the LCS.

24 team league: take the 12 team league rules, and double it for 2 leagues.

In addition to a Cy Young and a MVP Award, there will also be a Manager of the Year Award given to the owner with the best combined record. In the event that some owners own more teams than some other owners, it will be the best combined winning percentage.
