League Rules
1987 League Rules1. Basic Pitch: This is a non-contract league that begins with the 1987 season. Pick your team from those still available when you enter the league by placing the name in the chatbox. First come, first served.
The expectation is that owners will have 1 team each. However, owners can take additional teams, but if so, only one can be a winning team in 1987. If he takes 2 teams in the same division, they will play each other during the regular season.
2. How are players acquired?
You get all the players on your 1987 roster that had 50 AB or 20 IP. Duplicates may exist in 1987, meaning 2 teams might both have the same player. In future seasons, duplicates will not be imported: a player goes to the team where he had more IP or AB.
In Year 2 (1988) and all years thereafter, 30 IP and 100 AB will be the minimums.
ANY ISSUE ABOUT WHICH TEAM A PLAYER BELONGS ON MUST BE RAISED PRIOR TO THE FIRST GAME, OR THE RIGHT TO APPEAL IS WAIVED. Once a player “suits up” for a game, he belongs to that team.
3. Updating personnel:
Progressions: Unpredictable. The Plateau range is 30 - 32. 33 will begin decline.
Imports: You get all the imports from the next season that are not already in the league: 30/100 (IP/AB)
Stat Changing: Yes, unlimited, with minimums: 100 AB, and 30 IP.
Once games start, if a player is caught stat-switching to a year where the minimums are not met, the player (not the owner) will be removed from the league for the season, and will only return if imported. I make a distinction between an owner turning himself in before games start, and the Commissioner or another owner catching him during the season.
Trades: Yes – 99 per season.
Anyone can question the fairness of a trade, and forward a review request to the trade review committee. I will appoint the members of this committee, and the majority (in terms of their conclusions) rules. If for some reason there is a tie, the Commissioner will break the tie. The Commissioner will oversee the performance of this committee. Requests to have trades reviewed must be made within 1 week or 20 games from the trade, whichever comes first.”
Waiver Claims: will be used instead of a draft. They will begin after Game 1.
Owners will be expected and required to cut their rosters down to 26/0 after imports in anticipation of the new season. The Commissioner will make them if the owner does not, so that fair waiver claims can begin with Game 1. Order will be based on record in the first season, but based on last season’s final regular season standings thereafter.
No trades nor waiver claims will be honored after game 140 and before the end of the World Series.
4. League set up, number of games, rotation size, injury length, and roster size:
3 divisions: 8, 8, and 10 teams. 162 game season. 4 man rotation the first year, 5-man rotations for Season 2 and thereafter. Position players can be injured up to 5 games; pitchers can be injured up to 8 games. Rosters will begin the season at 26/0, but will enlarge to 26/10 to enable waiver claims.
UPDATE 1989: 2 leagues, 3 divisions each, 4 teams per division.
5. Playoffs: Playoffs: Each league now has 4 divisions. The 4 division winners, and 2 wild cards per league make the playoffs. The 4 division winners will be ranked 1 - 4 in terms of win/loss record, and the 2 wild card teams will be 5 and 6. In Round 1, 3/6 and 4/5 will play a best-of-5 series. In Round 2, the winners will be re-seeded with teams 1 and 2 for the league semi finals, the winners meet in the league finals (Round 3), and those winners meet in the World Series. Rounds 2, 3, and the World Series will be Best-of-7.
UPDATE 1989: In each league, there are 3 division winners and 4 wild card teams. The wild card teams play best of 3 series until 1 wild card team remains in each league. Then, the remaining 4 teams in each league lay best of 7 series.
Rules about ties for a playoff spot:
A wild card team never hosts a series against a non-wild card team.
If teams tie for a playoff spot:
⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker. Run differential is the 2nd tie-breaker.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)
MY BASIC EXPECTATIONS OF EACH OWNER:
⇒ Your commitment is season to season. When you join, you will be expected to actively run your team until the end of the season, which is when the regular season ends for non-playoff teams, or when your playoff team is eliminated. If you quit mid-season without my blessing, I will share this information with other commissioners.
⇒ Actively running your team means that you read messages once per day, meet all deadlines, and communicate any difficulties to the commissioner.
⇒ I will provide a minimum of 48 hours between a posting of a deadline, and the deadline. Ignorance of the deadline will not be an excuse for failing to meet the deadline.
⇒ If you will be away, and unable to get your messages, give the commissioner advance notice. Inactivity for ten (10) days, or repeated failure to meet deadlines, may result in your being booted from the league.
⇒ Every owner is expected to field a team (9 pitchers and 11 fielders) every game. Failure to do so, making the sims not run, results in a forfeit.
⇒ Read and be familiar with the rules immediately upon joining: it may affect your desire to be in the league, or your desire to pick a certain team.
Please keep all conversations clean
Please don't be rude to fellow owners
Please be active, if not active for 14 days you may be removed from the league

General rules:
Each offseason, you can switch a SP to RP, or a RP to a SP, but stamina will remain “as is.”. You can change it back the next offseason if you like, but no changes between first pitch and the last out of the World Series.
You can switch a player’s primary and secondary positions if they played 50% or more games THAT season at their secondary position, or at least 25% of their games for their career at their secondary position.
During an offseason, a player can be switched to the position they played most in their career, regardless of the requirements of General Rule #2.
You can switch a DH to his secondary position, as long as he has a fielding percentage.
Off season duties:
Empty the free agent pool.
Unpredictable progression after world series. 30 - 32 is the plateau range. 33 will begin the decline.
Imports: You get all the imports from the next season that are not already in the league: 20/50 initially, 30/100 from then on (IP/AB)
Stat changes: unlimited as long as the new stats have 100 AB or 30 IP.
Cut down to 26/0 by Opening Day. I will make the cuts if you don’t.
Waiver claims, beginning with Game 1, as rosters expand to 26/10.
Turn drops and trades on
Elastic Clause: I reserve the right to create new rules as necessary to deal with problems as they arise.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
