League Rules
Welcome! This Non Contract League will consist of the 10 teams chosen from the 12 NL teams from the 1892 season. There will be 1 division and 162 regular season games. Players will be yours until you cut or trade them. There will not be a 1900 season; we will jump from 1899 to 1901.
After 1899, the NL as it was known changed forever. Each city will continue with its team for imports in 1901. If a city has two teams in 1901 (as Boston had the Braves and the Red Sox), the owner of the 1892 Boston franchise can choose EITHER franchise (Braves or Red Sox) as its feeder program, but it must decide NOW, before first pitch in 1892, and the choice is permanent. Note that St Louis only had one team in 1901, and there were no NY Yankees in 1901. Teams that do not have a feeder team (Like the Louisville Colonels) can choose any team from those that are not assigned, before first pitch in 1892, and the choice is final.
Teams: 26/9 rosters; 3 man rotations, 11 players (incl. 2 catchers), 9 p minimum. BEGINNING IN 1901, WE WILL USE 4-MAN ROTATIONS.
Minimums: to start: 20 IP, 50 AB. After the first season, we will work towards 35 IP/100 AB. No duplicate players allowed in this league: duplications will be resolved by putting the player on the team where they played the most that season, in terms of AB or IP. Duplicates will not be imported. It is the duty of each owner to ensure they receive all their players through imports. After the first pitch of the season, any unfiled complaints will be deemed to have been waived.
You will receive the players on your team to begin. You will get imports (35 IP, 100 AB) each year. You will be allowed unlimited stat changes. You will be allowed unlimited trades. There will be waiver claims once the season starts. Players are yours until you cut or trade them.
Beginning in 1898, Teams must be down to roster limits by game 1. After game 2, Commissioner will fix any roster not in compliance.
Player draft: Prior to the first season, the order will be the inverse order of the teams actual season records. Prior to year two, and subsequent years, the teams that DON’T make the playoffs will be in a lottery to encourage playing to win and to discourage tanking to get a better draft pick. TO BE REPLACED BY WAIVER CLAIMS.
Divisions, games, and playoffs:
Regular season games: 12 teams: 162 games
Ties: If teams tie for a playoff spot:
⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker. 2nd tiebreaker: run differential. 3rd tiebreaker: I will make an arbitrary decision.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)
Playoffs elaborated: 8(!) teams make the playoffs:
a) The top 4 seeds get a bye in the first round. 5 hosts 8, 6 hosts 7 in a best-of-3 round.
b) reseeding occurs: 3 hosts 6, and 4 hosts 5 (1 & 2 get a bye). Best-of-5.
c) reseeding occurs: 1 hosts 4, 2 hosts 3 -- best-of-7 round.
d) World Series: best-of-7.
Teams: 26/9 (total of 35) rosters; 4 man rotation, 11 players (incl. 2 catchers), 9 p minimum.
At game 140, waivers and trades will be turned off until after the World Series.
General Rules: Each offseason, you can switch a SP to RP based on need. You can switch a player’s primary and secondary positions if they played 50% or more games THAT season at their secondary position, or at least a third of their games for their career at their secondary position.
