League Rules

NFL Redux

|| Structure & Schedule ||

League start is 1970 year , League will advance year by year indefinitely.

16 teams , 4 divisions , 2 conferences

16 game schedule. Division opponents are played 2 times, Conference opponents 1 time , then a division from opposing conference 1 time and then 2 teams from opposing conference division 1 time. Out of conference games will be switched home and away year to year. It’s a 4 year cycle for a complete playthrough of all teams. Ie, you always play the conference and division games. Out of Conference rotates the 4 by 2 method every 2 years.

League schedule will be posted in advance. Dates will be given for all 16 weeks for game day sim. It’s up to the user to use the time between games to prepare for the next week. Games will range between 3-4 days (real time) expect seasons to take around 6 weeks.

Postseason is all 4 division winners, plus 2 conference wildcards (best record)

Playoff tie breakers / divisional are as follows:

For divisional titles/playoffs…overall record, divisional record then head to head record then point differential finally to determine a winner.

Playoffs are single elimination.

Wildcard , divisional , conference and Super Bowl are the rounds.

|| Rosters , Contracts & Draft ||

40 man rosters with contracts , up to 53 total players (13 unsigned)

Salary cap is 256

Each team will have a base roster of 14 - 22 contracted players. This is to serve as the salary base for the entire league.

Players can be re-negotiated with and contracts can be signed for up to 8 years.

Players can be freely signed throughout the season and can be dropped.

Trade deadline is week 10. Draft picks for the same year can be traded with proper notation and logging by commissioner. Free Agency is also closed at this point.

Trade limit is 4 per season.

Initial league draft is a 10 round draft of all non-active teams players. This initial draft will be a snake format using the 1970 draft order. All drafts after will be traditional non-snake worst record 1st formatting.

All drafts (like schedule) are done thru advanced time slotting. You will have a day and time for the draft, it’s up to the user to make the date.

Drops are allowed of contracted players initially. But a cap penalty will be figured out in a few seasons time once we are established.

Any issues can be addressed by messaging me, I have no problem drafting for users or the like. I just need to know.

Progressions and contracts have been set using spreadsheeted values. Contracts have been pre slotted depending on progression and position groupings and age. All contracts are within set initial values and may need to be corrected as the league goes on. I will contact everyone if changes need to be made.

C progression is used for players with less than 2 pro bowls or all pros , A is for 2 or more , S is for hall of fame caliber players and other rare instances of “rare” talent.

Progression is 27 - 32. This will allow “developmental” type players, much like real life. Where it takes a few years or maybe even a change of scenery for players to reach their full potential. Ending the peak at 32, will mean that only the best of players remain relevant in the league into the mid-late 30s. Hopefully individual position group progression will be added at a later time, until then we will run with this.

Changes to players drafted in the 1968 , 1969 and 1970 drafts have been edited in instances where AV was less than 5. This was to give a more accurate of portrayal of higher tiered talent “out of the box”
This might not be needed as players are brought into the league, but seemed to be the safest bet for historical accuracy initially.

NO PRESEASON FREE AGENCY

For the drafts, it’s year to year basis. If the league is in 1970, the years draft is 1971. All players above 5 AV will be assigned contracts. And that years free agents are added into the pool. From there all eligible players (rookies and free agents) can be drafted.

For rookies, highest year or close to prime AV seasons will be chosen. For example, if Dan Marino is the draft. It won’t be “rookie” Dan Marino. It will be a season of higher AV value at a rookie contract and age. This measure once again is used to ensure historical accuracy “within reason.”

|| Post Draft ||

At the end of the draft posted dates will be given for the off-season period. Once again it’s up to users to have their teams set and ready to go before the schedule is released and season starts.

If there are any questions feel free to ask, rules can be added as time goes on.

Please be in this for the long haul, I’d like to keep this intact and running for years.

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
