League Rules

New Season Rules:

This is a league designed to keep any one team from having no hope from year to year.

You begin with your team. You will get the first year players (minimum 35 IP and 100 AB). The undrafted teams worst players will form a pool for a draft to ensure that there are enough players to fill out your roster. Pick your chosen team in the chat box -- first come, first served.

At the end of the season, you will receive your imports, then you will pick which (up to) 20 players you wish to retain for the following season, and the rest of the players on your roster will go into a pool for a draft, set in reverse order of record from the previous season. You will "pick" those (up to) 20 players by "signing" them to a 1-year contract: those not signed will be cleared from your roster when "contracts" are advanced (so you'd better be sure you sign the players by the deadline). Then the draft occurs. At the end of each season, the free agent pool will be emptied.

You get to keep whichever 20 players you want, you keep each player as long as you want, as long as they fit into the 20 player reserved list, and there is no bidding nor worry about budgets. Be aware that the platform will not let you have fewer than 11 position players or 7 pitchers when you make your cuts/retain your chosen 20 players. (There is actually a way around this: don't "Cut" them, just don't sign them, then when rosters are cleared, you have what you have.) Also note that when games begin, you must have enough players of the right type for sims to run. This would be 11 position players and 9 pitchers. If you don't have these minimums, your team's sims won't run, and you will forfeit games until you do.

You will then get imports [Change for 1999 and after: Imports will come BEFORE the draft, so you only have to cut once.]

You are keeping 20 players; that could be 11 hitters and 9 pitchers.

You will then have the draft.
You can make trades prior to first pitch.

Waiver claims will not begin until after the first game.

Make sure you have enough players on your roster at first pitch to avoid forfeits.

Everyone will have 2 teams. You can have 2 AL, or 2 NL, or 1 team from each league. We will draft teams snake-style. Draft slots will be assigned based on the reverse order of your first team's 1996 winning percentage.

Unlimited trades, but NO stat changes.

League composition: Will be determined by the number of owners.

Seeding: rank playoff teams by record. Otherwise, you risk punishing the top seed.

Ties: If teams tie for a playoff spot:

⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)

Playoffs elaborated:
10(!) teams make the playoffs: These teams are ranked by record. In case of ties:
a) If both teams are "in", head-to-head decides the higher seed. If they are still tied, then run differential decides the higher seed. If they are still tied, then I will go by their power rank. If they are still tied, I will make a very arbitrary decision.
b) If only one team would be "in", then they have a 1-game playoff.

d) The top 4 seeds get a bye in the first round. 5 hosts 10, 6 hosts 9, and 7 hosts 8 in a best-of-3 round.
e) reseeding occurs: 2 hosts 7, 3 hosts 6, and 4 hosts 5 (1 gets a bye). Best-of-5.
f) reseeding occurs: 1 hosts 4, 2 hosts 3 -- best-of-7 round.
g) World Series: best-of-7.

Teams: 26/35 rosters; 5 man rotation, 11 players (incl. 2 catchers), 9 p minimum. Minimums: 35 IP, 100 AB going forward.

At, or about, game 100, I will turn drops off. I will then expand rosters to 40 players, in case you need to add a player (in case of injury) during the season. At game 140, waivers and trades will be turned off until after the World Series. This prevents an owner from getting the benefit of a stat change without exposing a player to the draft.

⇒ Your teams will not play each other unless they both make the playoffs.
⇒ You may not trade players between your teams. This is a boot-able offense. However, you can choose to not retain a player on one team, and then draft him on another one of your teams.

GENERAL RULES: Each offseason, you can switch a SP to RP based on need. You can switch a player’s primary and secondary positions if they played 50% or more games THAT season at their secondary position, or at least a third of their games for their career at their secondary position. You can switch a DH to his secondary position, as long as he has a fielding percentage.

Initial Player Rules: Players should be on the team he had the most IP/AB for. Any disputes as to where a player belongs must be made before the first pitch of that new season, or the right to complain is deemed to be waived.

CONDUCT
MY BASIC EXPECTATIONS OF EACH OWNER:
⇒ Your commitment is season to season. When you join, you will be expected to actively run your team until the end of the season, which is when the regular season ends for non-playoff teams, or when your playoff team is eliminated.
⇒ Actively running your team means that you read messages once per day, meet all deadlines, and communicate any difficulties to the commissioner. If you will be away, and unable to get your message, give the commissioner advance notice. Inactivity for ten (10) days, or repeated failure to meet deadlines, may result in your being booted from the league.
⇒ Read and be familiar with the rules immediately upon joining: it may affect your desire to be in the league, or your desire to pick a certain team.

Please keep all conversations clean
Please don't be rude to fellow owners
Please be active, if not active for 14 days you may be removed from the league
We all love baseball and that's why we're here. So Just have fun and enjoy!

OFF SEASON DUTIES:

Emptying of the free agent pool.

Classic progression after world series. Plateau is 28 - 32.

Imports: Your next year’s players will be imported on your roster as long as they are not already in the league.

Retention designation: Owners will select the 20 players they want to retain by "signing" them to a 1-year contract. Rosters will then be cleared.

6-round Draft of free agents.

Turn drops and trades on, and return rosters to 26/35

Trades (all season 99) Trade deadline is game 140. No trades are permitted between game 140 and the end of the World Series.

In addition to a Cy Young and a MVP Award, there will also be a Manager of the Year Award given to the owner with the best combined record.

ELASTIC CLAUSE: I reserve the right to create new rules as necessary to deal with problems as they arise.

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
