League Rules
Welcome to the Florida Relegation League! With 40 teams, 20 in each division, and 1/2 of teams reaching the postseason, there are no boring days in this league.Schedule+Playoffs
Consisting of all teams from Florida, there are two divisions, the Orange (Division 1) and Grapefruit (Division 2). At the end of the 162 game regular season, the top 10 teams from each division make the playoffs. The playoffs are a five-game series between the 5 and 10 seeds, 6 and 9 seeds, and 7 and 8 seeds, with the higher seed getting home field in 3 of the 5 games. The winner of the 5v10 matchup plays the 4 seed, 6v9 plays the 3, and 7v8 plays the 2 in a 7 game series. (2-3-2 format.) The 1 seed from each division gets a double bye, and would play either the 4, 5, or 10. and the 3, 6, or 9 would play the 2, 7, or 8. Every round after the first round will use the 2-3-2 seven game format.
Budgets
Beginning year one, there will be $175 (This is subject to change) in cap space to be spent on 25 keepers. Rookies (18-25) who meet MLB rookie requirements (130 or less ABs or 50 IP) may be kept on rookie tags for free if they do not surpass the requirements. There are 25 open spots in the majors and 10 in the minors. Players in the minors will be progressed one extra time during the season, at a random point in the season.
Promotion+ Relegation
The main focus in the league is getting your team to Division 1, or keeping it out of Division 2. The top 5 teams from Division 2 automatically earn promotion to Division 1, while the bottom 5 teams from Division 1 are relegated to Division 2. In addition, winning the Division 2 tournament earns a promotion to Division 1. In the event that a 6 or lower seed wins the tournament, an additional 6th team would be relegated to compensate for the additional promotion.
Progression
Players peak at 28, and begin regressing at age 32. This includes the above-mentioned double progression in the minors.
Rookie Draft
Due to the large amount of young talent, there will be a one-round rookie draft the first two seasons, followed by a three-round draft every year after. The Grapefruit Division always picks before the Lemon, with the worst record in the Grapefruit selecting first overall, followed by the second worst Grapefruit record, and so on.
Free Agency
Free agency will be available on a waivers basis from Day 1 to Day 15, and open free agency after the 15th day. In each offseason, free agency will take place on a one round blind bid format. However, each team gets 3 bids, so use them wisely. Any top bids within 3% of each other are subject to rebid.
