League Rules
THE NEW CONTENDERS - LEAGUE RULESTHE BASICS
1. Be active. Be positive. Have fun.
2. The league will begin in the 1977 season and will include 10 teams, those being the franchises that had never won a World Series to that point. The teams will be split into two leagues: the Eastern (Phillies, Expos, Brewers, Royals and Blue Jays) and the Western (Rangers, Angels, Astros, Padres and Mariners).
3. This is a historical stats league. So players will progress from season to season based on their actual MLB careers. No crazy progressions. Aimng for realism here.
PLAYERS AND ROSTERS
4. In order to qualify for import the following minimum stat levels will apply: 60 AB, 60 IP (SP), 30 IP (RP). If there is a season where we end up with a depleted player pool these levels could be adjusted. It willbe reasonable to ensure no wonky superstars.
5. Rosters will be 25 in majors and 15 minors.
6. Four-man pitching rotation until 1980. Minimum 9 pitchers and 11 batters on each roster.
7. No contracts. Players stay with their teams until they are traded, dropped or retired.
8. I will maintain a list of players who do not qualify to roster due to not meeting minimum stat levels and they will rejoin their teams in subsequent seasons when they do qualify.
9. Fatigue is on. Injuries will be set at 10 days max for now. Slumpbuster is set for 10 days.
10. Any SP can be converted to RP and will have their EN set to 50. An RP can be converted to SP if they started 50% of their real MLB apprarances that season. A position playercan be converted to their secondary position but they will have their fielding stats adjusted to reflect either stats they put up at that position in real life, or some reasonable proxy determined by the commish.
11. Teams can trade players until day 120 of each season. There is no limit to the number of trades a team can make in a season. Trades will stand unless some kind of cheating or collusion takes place. Draft picks cannot be traded.
12. Once the season starts, any free agents will be available via the waivers process.
13. Ballpark dimensions can be set prior to the start of season one and teams will have the option of changing them every tenth season (ie 1987, 1997, etc).
THE SEASON AND POST SEASON
13. The season will be 162 games. The schedule will be system generated. Due to the small number of teams, we will use inter-league play.
14. Sims will be set to usersim on a four-hour schedule.
15. The League winners will face off in a seven-game World Series each post season.
16. Player awards will be auto-awarded.
OFFSEASON
17. Trades and drops will be turned on as soon as the season ends.
18. Players will be progressed based on their historical stats and players who missed last season due to not meeting stat minimums will be put back on their rosters.
19. Any new players who joined the majors with these franchises and meet the league stat minimums will be imported to the FA pool for a rookie draft each offseason. In order to keep the player pool sufficiently stocked, we will also throw in the imports from the two lowly Chicago teams who hadnt won a championship since 1908 and 1917 respectively. Worst to first draft based on the previous season?s standings (WS winner drafting last, runner up second last) until players run out. Draft order for teams with the same record will be as determined by PC draft setting.
20. Before the draft takes place, each team will be able to select one franchise import player from the draft pool who would have joined their actual MLB team that season. This will allow each franchise to keep some of their iconic players.
RULE CHANGES
21. We can adjust these rules as needed each offseason to ensure maximum fun and realism. Any major changes will be voted on by league poll.
FINE PRINT
22. Any season where ndekar wins the World Series will be deemed to be invalid and will be voided.
If you have any questions, just PM the commish.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
