Contracts Guide
Contracts can be extended indefinitely upon expiration. This means, you could theoretically draft a player, and sign them to a contract (max 5 years at a time) and continue resigning that player until retirement.
If you are not familiar with contracts in PennantChase, there is essentially a free year baked into the end of the contract.
For example:
You sign Babe Ruth for $15 for 5 years. You will pay him $15 in the current year, then 15 in years 2,3,4,5. In year 6, he will remain on your roster for $0, or basically a free contract. This is just how PC works.
So, when you sign a player for 1 year now, you are signing him for the year we just completed. Next year, that player remains on your roster as a contracted player for $0. You won't be able to cut that player when they are in the final $0 year. If you choose to resign that player, you are replacing the $0 contract with his requested amount. If you decide it's the end of the road for him, he stays on your roster at $0 and becomes a free agent next year.
My tip in this league is to make the best use of your budget by trying to max it out with young and peak players, while keeping older players on shorter contracts, such as the 1 year.
For example:
You have a 35 year old above average outfielder. He wants $8 per year. If you have the $8 to spend this year, use it to offer him a 1 year contract. It will only count towards the budget this year, and next year he will be $0. Rather than letting him go to free agency, you have the money, so spend it short term and bring him back next year for nothing. It's highly unlikely you'll get a better player for nothing next year. Considering this league offers up to 25 contracts, you'll likely have extra contracts available after your big spends.
Hope this is helpful. If you have more questions feel free to reach out.
