League Rules
Welcome to the Swingin' 60's League. This will be your typical contract custom leagueTHE BASICS:
-Games: 162
-Starting Rotation: 4-man until 1971
-Keepers: 30
-Tags?: No tags. Contracts only. Sign 'em or lose'em.
-Roster Limits: 26 majors, 15 minors
-Trade deadline: About league day 130
-Expansion: The league will expand as the MLB did in 1969 and 1977 at least.
-Salary Cap: $300
-Fire or WAR? WAR
-Max injury length: 40 days
-Slumpbuster: 10 days max
-No drop list? Yes
-In-season free agent adds: By waivers during entire season.
-Progression: Random. Peak at 28, regress at 32.
POST SEASON:
-This league will follow the same post season format as the majors that year. For 1962 to 1968, the regular season league pennant winners will face off in the World Series.
-As in real life, the AL will have homefield advantage in even years and the NL will have it in odd years for the early and mid-60s.
-Once the league expands in 1969, there will be a 5-game LCS in the 2-3 format and homefield advantage will flip to NL in even years and AL in odd.
CONTRACTS:
-To keep players you must sign them to a contract. There are no tags.
-There are no raises in this league.
-You may re-sign players on expiring contracts if you wish. It's DIY, no need to contact the Commissioner.
-You may buy out contracts by paying the FULL value of the contract. The value must be spread out evenly over any number of years, up to 10.
-If a team wishes to eat some salary on a player they are trading (think the Rockies paying the Cardinals $30 mil to take Arrenado), this can be done similar to a buyout. Both teams must let the Commish know the terms. Example: If team A trades a player with a contract of $20/year for 5 years, but wants to eat half the contract, then the player's contract will be reduced to $10/year for 5 years. The team trading the player away will owe $50 and may spread this equally over any number of years, up to 10. The contract's length cannot change.
POSITION CHANGES:
-You may swap a position player's primary and secondary positions during the off-season.
-There is NO changing starters to relievers and vice versa, unless changing a pitcher's real stats makes the change (ala Eckersley or Smoltz)
-If changing a position player's real stats causes a position change, their new primary/secondary positions stand and you can change between them.
IMPORTS:
-Each off-season, rookies for the new season will be imported. Batters must have 150 at-bats, starters must have 75 innings, and relievers much have 25 innings to qualify for import.
-Each team may claim one real-life rookie who played for their team that year and was imported. Example: The Phillies cannot claim Mike Schmidt in 1972 because he did not play enough to qualify for import. He would be imported for the 1973 season and the Phillies could claim him then.
DRAFT:
-Imported rookies who were not claimed will be selected in the rookie draft. The rookie draft will be ONE round.
-There will be no fictional players created.
-Draft picks may be traded with no limit.
CHANGING STATS:
-You may change real-life stats each year if you so choose.
-Batters must have 150+ at-bats and starters must have 100+ innings pitched. If you make a mistake stats will be adjusted.
-Changing of stats must occur by the all-star break, unless a player is traded.
DOUBLING STATS:
-After the all-star break deadline for changing stats, stats will be doubled for batters with fewer than 300 at-bats and starters with fewer than 150 innings.
FREE AGENCY:
-After completion of the rookie draft there will be one round of free agency in the off-season.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
