League Rules
Welcome to the favorite team league 1960-2005This is a very fun league made up of teams from one season from 1960-2005
Activity: Owners are expected to perform duties such as reducing rosters, setting lineups etc. If you haven't logged in over 10 days you might get the boot. I'll contact you first, but please be active.
If you are over roster limits, the commissioner will either move players to the minors or drop them. Habitually being over limits is grounds for removal from the league.
Sportsmanlike behavior: Joking around is okay, but please don't be hostile or ill-intentioned. The league chat box is there for questions and sincere observations and discussion, so please limit comments to these things.
Spring Training: There is no Spring Training in this league.
Regular season: 162 game regular season.
Trades: Teams are limited to 10 trades per season--I hope you don't find that inhibiting. The trade deadline, until further notice, is game 120. Trades will be turned back on at the end of the World Series. However, please note that I often forget the deadline so if you make a trade afterwards, I will not retract it, lol.
Postseason: As of February 15, 2021 single league divisional realignment, the new playoff system will be as follows.
The top division winner will receive a bye first round. The other three division winners and three wildcards (WC) will play each other in seven game series. Division winners (DW) will have homefield advantage.
For the first round, teams will play as follows:
WC3@DW4
WC2@DW3
WC1@DW2
The second round will begin with the winner of WC3@DW4 playing at DW1. The winner of WC2@DW3 will play at the winner of WC1@DW2.
The league championship will follow. Homefield advantage will be determined by best seasonal record.
Progression: Classic, with random progression. Players progress until age 28, stay the same until 32,then start to regress at age 33.
Retirement: Players will be retired at 41. Exceptions: Players who were 35-36 when originally imported will be able to go to 42; 37 and older will go to 43. There are many MLB players who have big years at advanced ages. Therefore a player who a team acquired through trade or f.a. in real life and wasn't previously in our league will be a new import, and may be 36, 37, etc. That player may have really good stats, so extending the age prevents a situation in which a player who hasn't regressed much won't get cut off arbitrarily.
The commissioner reserves the right to keep older players in the league beyond the stated rule.
Rotation: Four-man
Prospects: There are no prospects in this league.
Originally, we conducted chatbox bidding in this league. This has for the most part been replaced by a draft. However, at times we conduct a poll to see what owners prefer in any given season.
Draft: The first round will be slow with no clock. However, if more than a day passes after their turn begins, owners should not be surprised if we move on to the next team.
The second and third rounds will be run quickly, usually on two separate days, 24 hours apart. The draft room will remain open at all times and owners may still pick if their turn comes up outside of the scheduled times.
Once the scheduled time arrives, the commissioner will consult the preranked totals in commissioner tools. Any team not preranked will be skipped. Owners are free to come online during the scheduled time and draft in person if they wish.
If owners feel additional rounds are needed, we can use waivers prior to the season. Players acquired through waivers do not need to be signed.
Drops will be OFF until the draft completely ends to avoid players being added back to lists after they were dropped.
This system above effectively replaces the chatbox bidding process used through S17.
Teams will have until 24 hours after the draft to sign or drop drafted players. I will no longer be chasing teams. If your players remain unsigned, and they have not accumulated stats for the current season, they will be dropped back into the pool.
On the off chance that a season starts and a drafted player begins to accumulate stats, that player will be signed to a one year $15 contract and NOT be eligible for extension.
Imports: Every off season, your team will get imports from your next year's rosters as long as they are not already in the league. To be eligible, players must have 75 AB's/50 IP (SP)/25 IP (RP). They must also have a rank of 20 or higher, according to recent league polls. That said, the commissioner reserves the right to give owners finally say on certain younger players they feel would merit staying in league.
Extensions: Owners may extend up to three zero year ($) players each offseason. The previous extension and budget rule has been eliminated. No budget reduction will occur. Please note that one additional year will be added to your request since we do not allow a second "free" (not counted in budget) year. It will come off with advancement. The player can be released in his zero year per the rule below.
All owners may release any zero year players ($) on their roster, at any time. They must notify the commissioner of their wish to do so.
-----------
Per the September 2021 league poll, an owner may request that one of his players under contract be retired if their rank drops below ten.
REVISED OCTOBER 7, 2023:
Any player on your roster at rank 20 or below may be retired/removed. Message me if you have a request. This includes new imports and current players, even if they are under contract.
Stat levels may change at any point as I import and remove players from the league. Owners may use this option at any time, even during the season.
-----------
Free Agent bidding: every off season we will have chat box bidding for free agents. ** It is the owner's responsibility to keep track of his/her budget. Any bid that puts a player over budget will be INVALID.
STARTING S18, bidding will no longer occur. See draft and sign info above.
Season Free Agents: Waivers opens immediately with day 1.
Budgets: Every team will have a budget of $135.
Keepers: Every team can have up to 35 keepers.
Tagged players: there are no tagged players in this league with the exception of zero year ($) players tagged for extension.
New Owners: New owners after the first season can void/extend up to 3 contacts when joining.
Per the December 2019 poll, owners voted 9 to 3 to allow new owners to select a new team, should they wish to replace the available one in league. If the year chosen falls within range of current teams, the current teams will receive any duplicates in common on the basis of seniority.
Position Modification: An owner can request up to 3 position changes for position players and 1 for pitchers, prior to Day 1 of a season. A secondary position can become primary and vice versa, and an infielder can have his secondary position changed to IF. For example, a 2B/SS player could switch to SS/2B or a 3B/2B could go to 3B/IF if baseball-reference.com or an equivalent shows play at more than one infield position in the season in question. Note, this will entail a reduction is defensive stats.
A RP can be converted to SP if he made some starts that year or vice versa. There will be changes to stamina and other stats. SP to RP is a commissioners decision.
Injuries: the max time for hitters is 15; pitchers, 12.
More rules may appear as necessary.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
