i wish the numbers were accurate as to how many openings there really are. multiple times i have joined where it says one opening so you go thru the draft process, it says the league is full then after the time limit expires it is back to being 1 opening. it is a little frustrating when the league then takes days to fill. i currently have 7 teams waiting to start, 2 finally filled today. i dropped 2 because they were taking forever to fill, that is when i tried to fill a league and get going. i know this has been an issue for awhile. i just wish the numbers were accurate

If it shows only one opening in a league, click 'Browse the League' and then click 'Schedule': any team that doesn't have a starter listed for the opening day matchup most likely hasn't completely drafted their roster, in which case their team gets bounced shortly after the league 'fills'. That's probably the situation you keep running into.
You can also click on each team's roster, one at a time, to make sure they have 23 players. It's a lot more arduous but sometimes worthwhile homework as you can see how different owners have put together their teams.

It’s a fair point. I can think about ways of making this easier to see on the Join League page.

@gbacci , thanks. another thing that would be helpful is when searching for new leagues, it would be nice to come back to the same list, for instance i prefer all time greats and quick draft, whenever i set those parameters i check a team, then when i go back to the list it shows all leagues and you need to re set your preferences. it is not hard, just tedious after already selecting what i am interested in.

@rlapierre it was a little too difficult from a page load perspective to figure out every team’s roster size on the Join League page, but I added a “Teams Fully Drafted” to the white League Status box on the homepage of Auto Leagues.

Let me know if it's ever not working properly, I failed to find a league where any of the filled teams had not drafted. I think those cases are pretty rare (or happen right after a league rolls over), so it should work properly.

I still feel like a solution here would be anytime you evict team that did not complete the draft you should also evict all of the bot teams at the same time. This would reset the league to 5 or more open slots which is much more likely to attract new signups and once the league gets to 4 open slots you can fill the rest with bot teams and start the season.

If I could 10X like their idea of booting bots I would, the bots are added WAY TOO QUICKLY

One user recently did catch a glitch where bots were being added right after a league re-opened if the league was relatively full... that was not supposed to be happening, so that has been fixed, and it should now allow more time for humans to be added before bots do... this should help the issue a bit. The other thing, seeing how many teams have NOT drafted should actually encourage more people to join fuller leagues, because it will show that decent players are still left - 11 of 12 full with five teams that have not drafted is actually not that full of a league.

The Problem is that if the League shows 11-12 and 4 are BOT teams which haven't drafted yet, as soon as an owner enters, all those BOTS become live and draft and the league is FULL

Bots draft right away. There should not be a case where a bot is sitting in a league undrafted. If that is the case, please let me know and I'll get it fixed, but I think it was fixed previously - I do recall there were cases where bots were staying in leagues and not drafting, but that has been fixed for a while, all bots should get booted when the league resets.

Just speaking for myself, but I am not going to join a quick draft league with only 1 spot remaining because if I mess up my draft or just hate the result I am now allowed to quit the league. This is why I would prefer to see you kick out all the bots and reset the league to 5+ openings. I believe that will attract more people to join the league and once it is down to 4 or fewer open slots the bots can fill it out.
Another way to do this would be to only give owners 7-14 days to draft when a league resets instead of waiting for the league to fill to boot them. The problem is that bots fill the league, owners that did not draft are booted out and now you are left with a league with 1-2 open slots that no one wants to join.

That’s an interesting point @markphip , I’ll have to see if I can leverage this new concept of “teams fully drafted” to gain more control of when the bots enter.

Maybe going back to 10 team leagues with a max 2 bots. Even a max at 2 in 12 teams is good.

This is one of those very polarizing topics. I've offered to shrink the size of leagues, and it always gets a significant negative reaction. I know ideal state is fewer bots, but that also means MUCH longer for leagues to start. I do continue to delete leagues, but this is a difficult balance, as even deleting leagues doesn't always solve the issues. I think there are some short term tweaks that could help - leveraging the new info around "how many teams have fully drafted" I could stagger bots to only fill when they would truly finish off the league instead of continually taking spots and not even fully filling the league (due to owners not having drafted). Mark also had a good recommendation around booting users who don't draft after a while... that will be a bit more work, but not impossible.

yeah, i really like the booting of teams who join a league but don't draft. don't join until you're ready to draft. i've never joined a league and not drafted immediately. although, several times i only drafted the starting 9 lineup and forgot to go back and draft the scrubs for the bench requirements. but anyways, booting an owner who hasn't drafted within 24 hours is more than fair in my opinion. chances are after they get booted if they really wanted to play, the spot will still be open and then can rejoin and draft. almost could server as a reminder to draft, lol

I don't know squat about coding, but could you make some sort of check box to remain in the league at seasons end? So when the league resets any owner who hasn't committed to returning is auto booted before it even opens back up?

oh, that reminds me. i think that anyone who gets booted for any reason should receive an email notification stating they were booted and why and from which league. that is something that is currently missing that should be addressed regardless, because like i mentioned before i have been booted several times for forgetting to draft my bench players but never received an email about it, just kinda had to scratch my head and say hey didn't i draft an awesome cubs team yesterday, where did it go, hmmmm

@luckyguy73 you should be getting a message that you were booted for not drafting. I’ll have to look into why you weren’t. But you’re correct that you don’t get details about your roster.

Couple changes coming here, the notification about getting booted for not drafting was only sent to actual email, not site inbox... I've added it to the site inbox.

I am going to try identifying when humans have not fully drafted, and fill the league with bots who DO NOT draft - this will force out any humans who fail to draft (as well as the bots) - so the hope is, bots will only get added when they can actually fill the league. There will be a fair delay between then the first two bots are added and any further bots get added, and I reduced the max to 5 bots (it could take a few weeks before this all kicks in, as some leagues will still be on the old process).

existing teams should still get a full week before any bots are added at all - unless everyone stayed in the league and drafted right away, that's the only case where you might have to re-draft quickly.

This one is really off the charts - a Japanese League Daily Draft with 5 actual owners? I can only definitely confirm 3 as "Real" people.

I only see 5 bots, so 7 people in that league... That said, while the transition is happening, you will see some leagues with 7 bots, once those leagues finish, they will be on the normal cycle..

Sheik, you left Auto League 62, in my opinion a VERY tough Public or Auto League, and ended up in a League with - Guy says 5 but 1 owner has played ZERO Games and another has 15GP =
I bet you are kicking yourself; I really like a LOADED League, I realize I probably won't win, because whenever you have seriously good owners, the margin for victory is cut - You just knocked me out 4-0 in the Playoffs, I was looking for payback LOL

I can't remember why I left that league, to be honest. Could be one that I didn't have a lot of history in.
UPDATE: Best of the 90's league, NO KEEPERS, didn't win Championship. Because I have so many Auto League teams and don't want too many sitting around in the off-season, I have priorities for remaining in leagues. If I've been in a league for a lot of seasons, I stay. I always defend a Championship. Keeper leagues where I have good choices to keep, I'll usually stay. No Keeper leagues are a lower priority for me unless I'm defending a title - Auto League 62 fell in this category.
