The end of an era

The end of an era

Any hockey fans out there know what happened to CBC's Hockey night in Canada ? Just saw where they cancelled it . That's almost the same as cancelling MNF .

Re: The end of an era

Capitalism. The public broadcaster could no longer compete with Sportsnet and the like. Money, money, money. Also, we used to be able to watch all the local Winnipeg Jets games on TV every season. Last year they pulled 4 of them and put them on paid streaming services. This season I think it’s up to 8 that you have to pay to watch. Gotta love that Capitalist system. It works really well for the guys at the top.

Re: Re: The end of an era

While I somewhat agree with Gus, it's not Capitalism, it's manipulating and adding special attention to certain games, in the USA you can buy an NFL Pass and can watch every game, but unless you want to watch every game it's quite expensive, it's GREED pure and simple, and not just capitalism

Re: The end of an era

HNIC is now going to be used to broadcast PWHL games.

Re: The end of an era

Every game that's not on Peacock, ESPN, Prime, Netflix....Unless you're in market, then you always get it on broadcast/over the air anyway...These sold off slates of games really have people questioning the value of Sunday Ticket all over again....Happy for the ladies to land on HNIC hope that helps people embrace them even more than they already have..It's a good product!

Re: Re: The end of an era

I won't ever pay for Sunday Ticket again, too many games are *not* on Sunday Ticket to make it worth it. If I am paying to watch my favorite team that is out of market, many of their games are on national or streaming services. So I'm paying something like $700 to watch maybe 6 or 7 games. $100 to watch a single game on TV? No thanks.

Re: The end of an era

Everyday people are getting squeezed out of everything - I quit going to games because it was exorbitant, now they want to make watching on TV beyond our means. I bought the Dodgers SNLA+ in market package from MLB.tv for $30 a month but there are even blackouts with that. Every weekend, it seems like, at least 1 if not 2 Dodger games are on Fox, NBC or Apple and I refuse to pay more for those games. That's what IHeart Radio is for !!

Re: Re: The end of an era

At the start of the season I paid 99.99 for Mariners tv . When the first game aired , I could not watch it because it said I needed a subscription . I called customer service and the first ? they asked me was what city do the Mariners play in . I asked for a refund immediately . They don't care about you the consumer .

Re: Re: The end of an era

@sheikyerboudi NFL fans have it just as bad, if not even worse tbh. Have you SEEN the level of greed attached to viewing NFL games at home the last few season? And it gets even worse when you consider that at least an MLB season lasts half a year with a game almost every day for each team. The NFL season lasts a mere 17 weeks at one game per week per team

Re: The end of an era

I got a month of youtube tv with a promo just to watch the baseball playoffs - I'm watching whatever football is on during this month, but I don't care enough about football to pay to watch otherwise.

Re: Re: The end of an era

I am fortunate enough that my T-Mobile plan came with a full MLB.tv subscription. Which I have paid for in the past. I am a Royals fan so I could watch al their games except where I live in the Tampa area. Rays are blacked out. In a month or so I will be living on New Hampshire and it will probably be the RedSox blacked out. Don't care, lol!

I can watch pretty much ant NHL game on ESPN+ because my cable package comes with the Disney+ package.

With that I also get Appletv+ paramount+ and peacock all included. Cable companies are starting to add these aps so people won't drop them and go wireless.
The ESPN+ comes with pretty much every college game in a ton of sports.
On Sunday I do pay $10 per month during the NFL season to be able to see into all the games.
So I am fortunate I don't miss out on much, but we will see what the Granite State has to offer soon. Live Free or Die.

Re: The end of an era

Moved into a new house 3 years ago and dropped Directv for YoutubeTV. Like YoutubeTV way more than Directv. Raiders moved to Vegas so they are no longer in our area so I do pay for Sunday Ticket but they are never blacked out anymore due to their move.

Re: Re: The end of an era

That 10 bucks a month I pay for is for Red Zone BTW. I hadn't added that.
