Bot Teams

Bot Teams

Is it normal that 5 bot teams get added to every Budget auto league I join? Don't shoot me but maybe these should be 10 team leagues? All the human teams but one make the playoffs.
Funny. I will look at mu auto league football stats and I look good. But at least 10 wins a season are vs bot teams. I'll take the wins but the win % for us humans are really padded.

Re: Bot Teams

Maybe 10 teams would be good, but obviously site has too many leagues. I have so many auto leagues sitting in the offseason waiting to fill. I think without fillers, they would take sooo long to get started. I would rather play with fillers than not play at all.

It seems there is a site wide issue on filling leagues, or just having too many. I have such difficulty filling custom leagues now too, so much so that I literally ended and had gbacci delete half of the customs I was commish of.

Re: Re: Bot Teams

Agreed, I think it's a concentration issue,. Too many duplicate leagues of the same type to fill them all. It's hard for people to jump in when there's a bunch of leagues with 4 or 5 out of 12 joined and might not fill for weeks. Moving it to 10 might not change that.

I'm fine with having bots if it fills quickly, as long as over half of the league is humans. The custom leagues are where I get my "human only" leagues. I enjoy auto-leagues, but use auto-leagues as a fun sim that I can test strategies for the custom leagues I really love. That's my mindset on it anyways.

Re: Bot Teams

The 10 teams in my opinion would mean 3 bots. You can still fill after 7 humans join. It would just be fewer bots and more games vs actual competition.

Re: Re: Bot Teams

This has been a long-standing challenge on the site, and you guys have described the dilemma perfectly. The issue with shutting down Auto Leagues is that people are attached to certain leagues. I know I am in two particular Auto Leagues that I've been in forever and I like having my history there and seeing the same owners season after season and seeing if I can ever beat them (lol). So it's hard to just close down leagues... that said I do try to wipe out leagues with very few owners. I think 10 owners would help a lot, but there has been much push back around shrinking leagues - I think people get concerned it will be too easy to acquire good players. It could be worth a new poll seeing as how the landscape of the site continues to change and the number of bots has changed as well.

Re: Bot Teams

League 703 just filled not only with five bots, but three of them nearly identical Toronto FillJays teams! I don't think I've seen that before and I find it quite annoying . One clue as to cause may be that it was the third iteration of attempted bot fills where the first two backed out due to an undrafted team. Anyway, four bots MAX out of twelve teams would be my opinion and certainly no duplicates.

Re: Re: Bot Teams

Are we even sure at this point that GBacci hasn’t been taken over by a bot? Or maybe he’s always been one - just look at his name and pronounce it very slowly - Geeeee BOT-chee. Plus his first name is allegedly “Guy”. Isn’t that exactly what a bot would name itself if it was trying to blend in with the humans? I’ll do some more of my own research on this and get back to you. 😂🤣😂

Re: Bot Teams

I get that about baseball non favorite team leagues. I am thinking more of the NFL budget leagues.
Whatever it is it’s still great fun and the best sim site and community

Re: Bot Teams

@gbacci is there a standard wait time for leagues before they add bots?maybe just my perception but it seems like some stay open for quite awhile even after having 8-9 owners, then i recently joined a league as the 8'th owner and league advanced to ranking for supplemental draft an hour later. also wondering if auto league drafting logic has changed? seems like pitching wise you used to get a choice of 1 90's guy, 1 80's 1 70's then a couple lower guys. same with bullpen. i recently tried joining a few leagues but the offerings were pretty feeble! there were plenty of decent options on the free agent list but none were offered. seems all time greats was the only one offering all options. don't remember pickings being so slim.

Re: Re: Bot Teams

All the auto leagues run on the same schedule in terms of how the bots fill the league. They also all have the same logic in terms of how they distribute players in the Quick Draft. I’d have to see the specific leagues where you thought the offerings were slim. Something to keep in mind is that every pool is unique, so the “stud” pitchers in ATG might stop at rank 90 but in other pools the studs might go from 100-85 and then your tier two goes from 84-70, etc.

Re: Bot Teams

@gbacci don't know league # but i selected high rank clemens as a starter then was not offered a single pitcher ranked above 70, same with relievers, picked a 99 guy, then no other guy above72, so i quit and selected another lower ranked starter and at least was given another reasonable alternative, same with relievers. never had this issue when doing a redraft but has happened frequently when searching for new leagues to join. not a real issue, just found it a little odd. nobody wants to draft a lousy team and get stuck in a lousy league for a couple months

Re: Re: Bot Teams

I would have to see the specific league and how the players are distributed. It could be that 75 ranked guys are the #2s in that particular pool.

Re: Bot Teams

unfortunately i don't have that info, but if i see that again i will make note. i understand not all era's are created equal and have enough quality but when i looked at the player pool available for the number of teams left to draft it seemed reasonable to expect at least 2 solid guys at sp and rp, just didn't happen.
