Random July Baseball Thought
Random July Baseball Thought
Baseball players are smarter than football players. How often do you see a baseball team penalized for having too many men on the field? -- Jim Bouton
Hope all you PC guys have a great July 4th.

Re: Random July Baseball Thought
How many people here remember back in the 70's they made a tv show of ball 4 starring Jim Bouton and former Raider Ben Davidson . It was cancelled almost immediately . There is a clip on youtube of the opening theme song . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ys..
Re: Random July Baseball Thought
jimgriddy takes personal responsibility for the cancellation. Way to step up, Jim!
Re: Re: Random July Baseball Thought
I think that was the fall when we were filling out our Neilson ratings book. I was probably 12 and still holding the rabbit ears for dad.
And, you're welcome!

I'm 35 and there was no streaming when I was a kid, but when XM radio came out with every game/every broadcast every night?? That was the stuff! Now everything a click away...Wild...Happy Independence Day PCers!
Re: Random July Baseball Thought
@bnewman58 - i loved listening to the red sox on the radio growing up in the 70's! you actually had to use your imagination. my favorite was the star market homerun inning!!
Re: Re: Random July Baseball Thought
I still listen to the Phillies' road games on radio and 'see' all of the action from my spot for the home games. Baseball is such a radio sport.
Re: Random July Baseball Thought
Where I lived in Connecticut I could listen and watch Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets.
Re: Random July Baseball Thought
Exactly Dempsey- radio was the "Golden Age" of baseball because a good color commentator could make you feel like you were in the park watching the game without being in attendance. Here in Cincinnati, the Reds made WLW- the home of the most powerful radio tower in the nation- and some would say that WLW made the Reds. Crosley Field, the home of the Reds for many years was named after Lewis & Powell Crosley who made radio the household staple that it became and Crosley built WLW and produced the shows that it ran on the station specifically to help promote and sell the radios that Crosley made.
Unfortunately baseball's importance and relevance is waning because baseball is a sport that is too slow for TV- it has and always will be a sport that was made for the radio broadcast platform and for Strat-O-Matic baseball cards!
