#: Playoff Berth

AL East

Baltimore Orioles ++#
New York Yankees ++#
Boston Red Sox +
Tampa Bay Rays --

BAL - The Orioles remain as a championship contender in the American League, and at the very least, they will have the opportunity to build around Yoshi Fujita for years to come (although you can wonder if testing what turned out to be a lucrative market would’ve been beneficial). 95+ wins should be the expectation, and depending on the rest of the division, winning the division is a high probability.
BOS - Once again, Boston finds itself in a peculiar position. It lost its star catcher and one of its aces to free agency, yet the team still finds itself in a position to make some sort of a run even through a crowded American League. Ultimately, the Red Sox will go as far as Cretella will carry them, and a really good season depends on an Outlaw resurgence.
NYY - 27 years it took for the New York Yankees to return to the postseason, and they captivated a season in the making by taking the eventual World Series Champions to six games. There isn’t much to report on here; they return almost the same roster that took them to new heights last year, and a youthful roster should continue to progress. The biggest concern is how they continue to work in the future with multiple contracts coming off the books and a tantalizing, robust free agent market.
TB - It’s very hard to convince that the light is closer than it appears after a 120-loss season, but it's a better roster than the 2052 team. Add Schuchard’s farewell season (and goodbye to a $50M+ commitment) and the rich farm system with continued resources to build off of, and the Rays won’t end this decade without meaningful baseball under their belt. 2053 is not the year that starts, though.

AL North

Toronto Blue Jays ++#
Detroit Tigers +
Minnesota Twins --
Chicago White Sox --

CWS - A half-done teardown and 106 losses later, the White Sox are…still trying, apparently. Despite having a poorly constructed roster and despite the tell-tale signs over the last few seasons, the White Sox trot out with hopes of making the postseason. If future drafts go the way they did last season, maybe it’s for the better!
DET - For what it’s worth, the Tigers are still a tremendous team, aided by additions like Skeeter Bell and Quaddus Bryant Jr. this offseason, but their floor has been lowered through little fault of their own. Last year’s competitive division showed how difficult it’ll be to win division titles, and once again, the AL Wild Card picture is so crowded that it’ll be very difficult for anyone in this division to get a look there. Still, the Tigers are contenders with room to grow during the season.
MIN - Minnesota spent this offseason just staring…menacingly. Its star catcher and best starting pitcher are now elsewhere, and every move came at the very end of the offseason. At best, it’s a mediocre year for the Twins, and at worst, it’s an extreme punt on the 2053 season…for whatever reason.
TOR - Apparently, the line for the Blue Jays is Charlie Booth, because after the last two offseasons, the lack of any run at the star catcher is shocking. Instead, they aggressively went after Panchal to be the ace replacement for Ellie Dow Jr., signed a 3B, then signed a clear number one reliever in Gavin Harrington Jr. The glaring holes that existed last year no longer exist, and now a path to becoming World Series contenders is clear in The Six.

AL South

Texas Rangers +++#
San Antonio Bandits ++
Music City Stars +
Kansas City Royals -

KC - Trading Yoshi Fujita proves to be the most asinine decision that the Royals have made since…well, they traded the pick for Corbin Ray Jenson. Naturally, they did everything they could to keep Tristan Cook, then proceeded to play the waiting game yet again in the offseason. Still one of the best defensive teams in the game, Kansas City’s floor can only be so low, but when is it time to raise expectations, some wonder?
MC - If the Royals are the kings of perpetually undermining their ceiling, the Stars are the kings of the polar opposite. While there were many breakouts during the 2052 campaign for Music City, it only resulted in three more wins from 2051 and the firing of first-year manager David Skate for Dejah Mulipola from the Pittsburgh days because of COURSE. It’s a team that can hit and spent draft capital at the deadline improving defense, but it’s still a step too low for the American League.
SA - If you want any proof that the American League is just a gauntlet, try winning 95 games and still being banished from the postseason. Their offense is a bit weaker than the team from last season, but a full season of Cy Young Award winner Alvin Dillard behind a pretty good defense should level the tide. The Bandits remain competitive in the AL.
TEX - If not for the Braves in 2051, we would be talking about the Rangers as looking to be just the second team since 2017 to three-peat this season. Nonetheless, this is about as low doubt as it gets for a team to go back-to-back in a long while. Travert and Waxweiler are gone, and it doesn’t even matter because of their loaded bullpen and depth at second base. It still possesses the most complete lineup in the sport, the platooning brothers notwithstanding. And have you taken a look at their farm system?! Yeah, the Rangers are developing a potential super dynasty in the making, one that would take a monumental screw up to break down.

AL West

Vancouver Vespers ++#
Seattle Mariners ++#
San Jose A's +
Anaheim Angels -

ANA - Similar to the White Sox, someone needs to take the Angels to the side and just tell them that they’re not very good. Instead, they’re the ones that’ll run the Bronx retirement tour, ignore that Chapman is gone, and there’s nothing special coming through the minor league system (yet). They’re the clear worst team in the AL West, and are being ranked as such.
SJ - A small part of the run they had last season was luck, yes, but the Athletics proved that they are a capable team. One of the best offenses in the sport, with one of the best closers and a staff that didn’t embarrass itself, plus defense so good that Dominik Cooke is the designated hitter for this squad? Regression is in play, but calling the A’s a pure luck team would be an insult to the word “luck”.
SEA - Despite never hitting more than five homers in a season, Corbin Ray Jenson is the best player on the planet right now. It’s time to make that declaration. With that, it’s time for the Mariners to start competing. Lorenzo de la Torre will debut this year and will likely be their ace in the stretch run. There’s enough firepower to drive Jenson and Pirozzi in when they’re on base (a lot). The biggest concern for the Mariners is the bullpen, which has to be a high priority at the deadline. Even still, this has to be a breakthrough year for the Mariners, and they have the talent and front office to do it.
VAN - What did we learn last year? The Vespers aren’t entirely invincible, never holding a division lead and barely clinging onto a postseason spot before ultimately falling two games back in the division and six games short of a wild card berth. You cannot ignore the +124 run differential from last year’s team, nor can you ignore the addition of Tamayo this offseason. Last year was just a blip, and Vancouver should return to World Series contender status this season.

National League

NL East

New York Mets +#
London Lions +
Philadelphia Phillies -
Washington Nationals ---

LON - The Lions have won the division for three straight years, but a lot of that is arguably because the Mets twiddled their thumbs and the Phillies and Nationals were absolutely horrendous. With the Mets finally deciding to spend substantially and the Phillies having the offseason of a lifetime, the NL East is no longer a walk in the park. While the Lions aren’t a poor team — they can certainly hit — and likely underperformed last season, the rest of the division catching up is a possibility.
NYM - The funny part about the New York Mets is the random spurts when they remember they have a truckload of cash that they can spend, and that they did, specifically on a new ace and one of the best relievers in the sport. That also doesn’t consider their 10th overall pick in the previous draft and Wallace DuPuis, who could (and probably should?) start the season in the major leagues. A division crown is very possible, and the NL East doesn’t look like a division that will be walked over this offseason.
PHI - The Phillies took their big step this offseason, spending massive money on Charlie Booth to be their star of the present and future, and completes one of the teams to follow this season. A top-heavy offense and their Cuban ace are the big names for Philadelphia’s future. Cautious predictions say that it’s a year too early, especially because any further, and we’d be predicting a 25+ win swing, but a return to playoff contention shouldn’t be a shock.
WAS - Any sort of playoff contention for the Nationals would be the shock of the century. The rotation is horrible after Shimomura, there are no prospects to look out for on the major league roster, and half the coaching staff, including the manager, are the veterans who were designated for assignment over the last year. It is clear that this is a long-term rebuild; the question is for how long?

NL North

Montreal Expos +#
Chicago Cubs +
Pittsburgh Pirates -
Cincinnati Reds ---

CHC - The Cubs fell out of the postseason late last season, so they elected to turn around half of Quaddus Bryant Jr’s salary into Chapman, Gose, and a whole lot of quantity and depth. A postseason run is possible, but they’ll be in a division (and a league) with similarly built, hungry teams. Time will tell if they are the cream of the crop and have a chance to shatter century-long droughts.
CIN - The good news is that the Reds will have somewhat competent ownership and leadership for the first time in a long while, and that bodes well for the future. The Kwang-sik Nam contract has to age well for this offseason to be a big-time hit, but an actual building foundation was set. The bad news…I don’t know if they’re that much better than the 117 losses they presented last season, and based on their current payroll situation, that’s not a good thing if they want to continue building.
MON - Very quickly, the answer to what’s slowing down the Expos is age…fast. Summers is no longer an elite player, Aleshire is trying for a rebound season at 36, Beckham is getting up there fast (goodness, we are old, what do you mean Mike’s son is nearing the tail end of his career?!) In a wonky NL North, they should be fine, but what’s next for the future of this team will be a topic of conversation.
PIT - Best season for the Pirates since the return of Dale Waller, so what do they run this offseason? Run SOS, time to pay a lot of money for another reliever! Unfortunately, the rotation was simply patched with a rookie, and Jerry Hesterson (who did pitch a perfect game in the World Series), and the Phunphoem investment might’ve been a mistake, but…Albinson.

NL South

St. Louis Cardinals ++#
Houston Astros +#
Atlanta Braves +
Arizona Diamondbacks --

ARI - Once again, the Diamondbacks do the thing of “I got money, play for me”, and some guys say yes. 102 losses last year were way below expectations, but the expectations are mediocrity, especially when compared to other NL South teams.
ATL - I’m just going to put it this way: 2051 was the season of a lifetime for the Braves. Half that team has departed since then; they couldn’t secure Dillard, and it took heavy convincing to get Mains off the market. The floor cannot be that low with the talent it does have, but the ceiling will continue to be low with what they currently have.
HOU - After back-to-back years of underperforming, the Astros decided, “let’s overperform and still finish over .500”, so now everyone’s confused. Devin Bell raises expectations quite a bit, and Eun-seong Son showed a lot of promise in his rookie season. The expectations should be a postseason berth, but with the way Houston has performed the past few seasons, that’s far from a sure thing.
STL - The reigning National League Champions added a superstar catcher to their lineup as their big move this offseason, and now the fun really begins for the Cardinals. Last year was a breakout year for them, and now it looks like they could take over the best team in the National League spot. As of now, they are the clear best in the NL South and prime World Series contenders.

NL West

San Francisco Giants ++#
Los Angeles Dodgers ++#
Las Vegas Gamblers +
San Diego Padres --

LV - Apparently, the answer to the question “what happens to the Gamblers in the post-Nikolai era?” is “they’ll be ight”. That’s through no fault of Nikolai, but through credit to the Gamblers, who got everything possible from that deal and replaced most of his production farely well. This offseason, Ellie Dow Jr. signed as an exceptional number two in the rotation, Zach Alford is back for the vibes, and Xaryus Clayton serves to be a good addition to the lineup (or, at the very least, gets Chandler off the field). Postseason contention is the play for the Gamblers, but a run wouldn’t be out of the question.
LAD - The biggest complaint about the Dodgers last offseason was they no longer had elite defense, so this offseason, they picked up Mizohtani and Waxweiler and called it an offseason (that’s not what happened, they also tried to pick up one of the two superstar catchers, but that ruins the punchline of this blub, so I’m going to ignore it). Now the red flag is the fact that the young rookie contracts, the farm that they were building while somehow winning 100 games every year, haven’t broken out (other than Cash), and a lot of them are anchoring a staff led by a fading Fahrenholz and an “Outstanding” Bryant. An excellent season likely means that they have found their way, but they’re running out of chances for that to happen in LA.
SD - We are entering year six of the Du-Ri Park era, the Padres still haven’t found a way to build a damn thing around him, and now I’m just copying and pasting from the previous season previews. That should tell you all you need to know.
SF - The Giants are no longer the clear best in the National League through no fault of their own. Seriously, they’re still an elite offensive team, and an Almeida resurgence would do wonders for something that was a concern last year. World Series contention and a legitimate chance to win it all remain on the table for San Francisco.
