Pirates Win the Series!Marty Pattin got the win in 2 of Pittsburgh's 4 wins. The Pittsburgh Pirates are the 1976 World Champions. The Pirates prevailed over the Minnesota Twins in 5 games to win the series. Pirates pitching was on full display in this one, only giving up 6 runs in the series. In fact, if you take out the game the Twins won, Pittsburgh only gave up 1 run in the other 4 games.
Willie Stargell lead the way offensively for the Pirates with 8 hits, a .421 batting average, and 4 RBI in the series. Kent Tekulve was a "difference maker," as the Pirates manager put it after the series win. Tekulve saved all 4 wins. In the final vote among sports writers, Marty Pattin was given the World Series MVP award. Pattin won both of his 2 starts (games 1 and 5 of the series). Pattin was masterful, pitching 14 scoreless innings in total.
If I might say, the locker room had somewhat of a "family" feel after the series win. Something to keep an eye on... Congratulations Pittsburgh!
