Lead Story - 5/6/2025
Durham Bulls - 2075 World Series Champion
The Durham Bulls were down 2 games to none to the Richmond Knuckleballers and swept the next 4 games to win the 2075 World Series 4 games to 2.The Knuckleballers’ Blake Snell and the Bulls’ Josh Beckett squared off in Game 1. Snell came out on top allowing 1 run on 6 hits. With the score tied at 1 in the 7th, Ellis Burks broke the tie with a solo homer to give the Knuckleballers the victory, 2-1.
The Knuckleballers took a 1st inning lead in Game 2 on Fred Lynn’s 2 run homer. Ron Blomberg narrowed the lead in the 2nd with a solo homer. Chad Kreuter’s 3 run homer in the 4th extended the Knuckleballers lead to 5-1. The Bulls tied the game 5-5 in the 6th. Tim Naehring hit a 2 run homer and Willie Randolph hit a 2 run double. Blomberg’s 2nd homer of the game put the Bulls ahead 6-5 in the 8th. In the top of the 9th, Steve Pearce hit a pinch hit 2 run double to give the Knuckleballers the victory 7-6.
Jeff Weaver gave the Bulls their first victory of the Series in Game 3, allowing 1 run on 7 hits. Series MVP Barry Larkin put the Bulls up in the 1st with a solo homer. Miguel Cabrera’s RBI double in the 3rd tied the game 1-1. In the top of the 7th, Rick Wilkins broke the tie with a solo homer and Larkin added a RBI triple to put the Bulls up 3-1. The Knucleballers’ 9th inning rally fell one run short; Bulls victory 3-2.
The Bulls got a comfortable win in Game 4 to even the Series at 2. The Knuckleballers’ Sean Casey hit a 1st inning solo homer to put them up early. The Bulls tied it in the 3rd on Bobby Abreu’s RBI double, and took the lead 3-1 in the 4th on Edmonds’ 2 run homer. The Bulls busted the game open in the 8th on Abreu’s 2 run homer, and scored 5 runs in the 9th, in route to a 10-2 victory.
Game 5 was a great one with the Bulls completing a sweep of the Knuckleballers in Richmond taking a 3-2 Series lead with a 7-5 victory. Beckett got the better of Snell taking the win. The Knuckleballers took the early lead with Casey’s 1st inning solo homer and Vidro’s 2nd inning solo homer. The Bulls took the lead in the 3rd on Randolph’s solo homer and Larkin’s RBI double. Charlie Hayes tied the game with a RBI single in the 4th and Vidro gave the Knuckleballers a 4-3 lead in the 6th with his 2nd homer of the game. The Bulls scored 4 runs in the 7th to take a 7-4 lead on Larkin’s 2 RBI single and the Bulls rally fell short.
The Bulls Sam McDowell took the mound in Game 6, allowing 1 run on 5 hits to bring the World Championship to Durham. Edmonds 2nd inning RBI double and Larkin’s 3rd inning sac fly put the Bulls up 2-0, and McDowell kept in command, giving the Bulls the 3-1 victory.
Barry Larkin was the Series MVP with a .333 Avg, 1.083 OPS, with 6 RBI, 1 double, 1 triple, and 1 home run.
Fred Lynn led the Knuckleballers on offense with a .318 Avg, 1.364 OPS, 1 double and 3 home runs.

New Orleans Pelicans - 2074 World Series Champions
The New Orleans Pelicans swept the New Orleans Zephyrs 4 games to 0 to win the 2074 World Series.In Game 1, Aaron Civale out dueled Jacob deGrom to give the Pelicans the opening game victory. Civale held the Zephyrs to 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 7. Jeff Bagwell’s 3rd inning RBI single put the Zephyrs on top 1-0, but the Pels responded in the bottom half of the 3rd with a solo homer run by Joey Votto and a RBI by Kal Daniels to give the Pelicans a lead they would not relinquish. Pelicans 3, Zephyrs 1.
Game 2 was a great one. The Pels broke a scoreless tie in the 4th with Tony Olivia’s RBI double and extended the lead to 3-0 on Olivia’s 5th inning RBI. The teams exchanged runs in the 7th, giving the Pels a 5-2 lead. The Zephyrs scored a run in the 8th on Doug DeCinces RBI double, and took the lead 6-5 in the top of the 9th on RBI doubles by Willie Wilson and Bagwell. The Pels tied the score in the bottom of the 9th, 6-6 when Cal Ripken scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the 10th, Richie Zisk gave the Pels the win 7-6 with an RBI single.
Oliver Perez took the victory for the Pels in Game 3, holding the Zephyrs to 2 runs on 6 hits. The Pels took an early lead 4-0 with a 2 run homer by Aaron Judge in the 1st and back to back solo homers by LeMahieu and Zisk in the 2nd. Bob Horner narrowed the lead with a 2nd inning Solo homer for the Zephyrs. The Pels held a 4-2 lead into the 9th and Zisk hit his second homer of the game in the 9th to give the Pels a 6-2 victory.
Down 3 games to 0, the Zephyrs fought hard in Game 4 to extend the Series. The Pels scored 1st with a 2 RBI single by Cal Ripken. The Zephyrs tied the game in the bottom of the 4th on Randy Bush’ solo homer, 2-2. Bagwell put the Zephyrs on top 3-2 with a 6th inning solo homer. With 2 outs in the top of the 8th, the Pels scored 3 runs on Ripken’s RBI single and Madlock’s 2 run double. Bob Horner hit a solo homer in the bottom half, but could not complete the rally, and the Pelicans won the Championship 5-4.
DJ LeMahieu took the MVP award for the Pelicans with a .600 Avg, 1.933 OPS, 3 Doubles, 1 Home Run and 2 RBI.
Troy Tulowitzki led the Zephyrs on offense with a .500 Avg, 1.643 OPS, 4 doubles and 3 RBI

Bay City Black Stars - 2073 World Series Champions
The Bay City Black Stars won the 2073 World Series 4 games to 3 over the New Orleans Zephyrs. Down 3 games to 1, the Black Stars swept the last three games to win the Championship. It was a great Series with 3 of the first 4 games went extra innings.In Game 1, the Black Hawks were holding a 1-0 lead into the 4th. The Zephyrs scored 7 runs in top half of the inning; Jeff Bagwell, Sammy Sosa, Bob Horner, Jorge Posada and Willie Wilson all hit doubles in the inning. The Black Stars responded in the bottom of the 4th with 5 runs, led by a 2 RBI double by Josh Hamilton. Zephyrs led 7-6. The Zephyrs added a run in the 6th and the Black Stars tied the game in the bottom of the 7th on solo Homers by Bryce Harper and Freddie Freeman. In the top of the 11th, the Zephyrs scored 3 runs, on Sosa’s RBI double followed by Randy Bush’s 2 run Homer giving the Zephyrs the victory 11-8.
The Zephyrs took the early lead in Game 2 scoring 3 in the 1st on RBI singles by Sosa and Horner and a RBI triple by Bush. The Black Stars scored a run in each of the first 3 innings to tie the game at 3-3, led by a solo homer by Ron Santo in the 2nd. The teams traded runs in the 5th, and the game went into extra innings tied at 4-4. Bagwell’s RBI single in the top of the 10th broke the tie, and gave the Zephyrs a 5-4 victory and a 2-0 Series lead.
Tony Gonsolin gave the Black Hawks their first win of the Series in Game 3 with a complete game 3 hitter. Harper put the Black Stars on the board with a 2nd inning solo homer and added an RBI single in the 6th. Black Hawks 6, Zephyrs 1.
Game 4 was the 3rd game of the Series to go to extra innngs. The Black Stars built a 3-0 lead, scoring in the 1st on a RBI by Harper, in the 2nd on a RBI double by Santo and in the 6th on a RBI double by Devin Mesoraco. Jeff Bagwell tied the game for the Zephyrs in the bottom of the 6th with a 3 run homer. 8 innings went by with the game tied a 3-3. In the bottom of the 14th, Mark Teahen and Posada hit back to back doubles, giving the Zephyrs the victory 4-3 and a 3 games to 1 Series lead.
The Black Stars opened the scoring in Game 5 with a 2 run homer in the 2nd by Mesoraco. The Zephyrs narrowed the lead with a solo homer by Sosa in the bottom of the 2nd. Hamilton’s RBI single extended the Black Stars lead in the top of the 3rd and the Zephyrs tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom half on Gordon’s RBI single and a wild pitch. In the 5th the Black Stars scored 3 on Hamilton’s RBI double and Harper’s 2 RBI home run. The Black Stars shut the Zephyrs down the rest of the way in route to a 6-4 victory.
The Black Stars won Games 6 & 7 to take the Series. I do not have the game results to complete the recap.
Bryce Harper won the Series MVP with a .421 Avg, 1.737 OPS, 3 HR and 8 RBI

Santa Ana Tarantulas - 2072 World Series Champions
The Santa Ana Tarantulas won back to back championships, defeating the Roswell Cobras 4 games to 3 to win the 2072 World Series.The Cobras took the Series lead with a 5-2 Game 1 victory. After both teams scored one run in the 1st, the Cobras took the lead with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd. With 2 outs in the 3rd, Paul Goldschmidt doubled, Joe Torre singled, Dave Winfield tripled and Pedro Guerrero singled to bring home 3 runs to give the Cobras the victory.
The Tarantulas evened the Series in Game 2 behind the 3 hit pitching of Walker Buehler. The Tarantulas opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd, with a 2 run homer by Christian Guzman. The Cobras tied the game, scoring single runs in the 5th and 6th with a solo homer by Jody Reed. Bo Bichette’s RBI double put the Tarantulas back on top in the bottom of the 6th. Adrian Gonzalez hit a 2 run homer in the 7th giving the Tarantulas the victory 5-2.
The Tarantulas took the Series lead in Game 3 with a 5-3 victory. The Tarantulas scored in the 2nd on Bichette’s RBI double, in the 3rd on Gonzalez’ solo homer and in the 4th on Brian McCann’s 2 run homer.
The Cobras took the early lead, 6-0 in Game 4, scoring 2 in the 1st and 4 in the 3rd on Joe Torre’s RBI triple and Kevin Youkilis’ 2 run homer. The Tarantulas bullpen shut them down the rest of the game and the offense began nibbling at the lead. Gonzalez’ RBI double in the 4th, Ramirez’ solo homer in the 5th and Bichette’s RBI single in the 6th narrowed the Cobras lead to 6-5. In the top of the 8th, the Tarantulas took the lead on Devin Mesoraco’s pinch hit 3 run homer, taking the game 9-6, and the series lead 3 games to 1.
The Cobras AJ Burnett delivered much needed pitching in Game 5 allowing 1 run on 7 hits for the win. The teams traded runs in the 4th. In the bottom of the 7th, the Cobras loaded the bases; Winfield walked in a run and Guerrero emptied the bases with a 3 run triple giving the Cobras a 5-1 victory.
Lance McCullers followed with a complete Game 4 hitter in Game 6, as the Cobras evened the Series. The Cobras scored on Winfield’s solo homer in the 2nd, Goldschmidt’s RBI single in the 3rd, Chipper Jones’ solo homer and Reed’s 2 run double in the 4th in route to a 6-2 victory.
Game 7 was exciting early. The Tarantulas took the early lead on Kenny Lofton’s 1st inning solo homer. In the 2nd, Bichette’s solo homer and Guzman’s 2 RBI triple put the Tarantulas on top 4-0. The Cobras answered in the top of the 3rd on Torre’s 2 RBI triple narrowing the lead to 4-3. The Tarantulas extended their lead in the bottom of the 4th on Kenny Lofton’s 3 run Homer. The Cobras were only able to grab a run in the 8th and the Tarantulas took the Series with a 7-4 victory.
Adrian Gonzalez took the Series MVP for the Tarantulas batting .448 with a 1.448 OPS, 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 5 RBI.
Pedro Guerrero led the Cobras on offense batting .409 with a 1.273 OPS, with 2 double and 1 triple.

Santa Ana Tarantulas - 2071 World Series Champions
The Santa Ana Tarantulas defeated the Reading Royals 4 games to 2 to win an exciting 2071 World Series. You could call this the 2071 Home Run Derby, as 88 runs , 136 hits and 33 Home Runs were accumulated in the Series.In Game 1, the Royals scored in 4 of the first 5 innings to build a 5-1 lead behind Home Runs by Sean Berry and Garry Maddox. The Tarantulas fought back, tying the game in the bottom of the 9th with a Home Run by Christian Guzman, sending the game to extra innings. In the top of the 11th, Berry hit a 2 run homer to give the Royals the victory 7-5.
The Tarantulas evened the Series in Game 2 with a 5-3 victory. Max Fried pitched 8 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs to get the win. The Tarantulas built a 4-1 lead into the 8th, on homers by Ben Zorbist and Yadier Molina. The Royals narrowed the lead, 4-3 in the 8th on Berry’s 2 run homer, but could get no closer.
Game 3 was an offensive show. The Royals took a short lived lead in the bottom of the 2nd on Matt Chapman’s 2 run homer. The Tarantulas tied it in the top of the 3rd on Aramis Ramirez’ 2 run homer. Jeff McNeil put the Royals back on top in the bottom half with a solo homer. Greg Colbrunn tied the game with a solo homer in the top of the 4th. Colbrunn put the Tarantulas on top 7-4 with a 3 run homer in the top of the 6th. The Royals narrowed the lead to 7-6 on Maddox’s 2 RBI single. Kenny Lofton’s pinch hit RBI double extended the Tarantulas’ lead 9-6 in the 8th. The Royals rallied in the bottom of the 9th with 4 singles. Luke Hochevar entered the game and retired the last two batters to strand 2 runners and preserve the 9-8 victory for the Tarantulas.
The Royals tied the Series at 2 in Game 4 with a 6-5 victory in extra innings. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th, Bobby Abreu hit a SAC fly and Jeff McNeil hit a RBI double to put the Royals up 3-2. Prince Fielder’s 2 run homer in the 6th extended the Royals lead 5-2. The Tarantulas rallied, tying the game in the top of the 9th on Guzman’s 2 run homer. In the Bottom of the 11th, Ichiro Suzuki hit a walk off 2 out single to give the Royals the victory.
The offensive show continued in Game 5. The Royals jumped on top 4-0, on Christian Vazquez’ 3 run homer in the 1st, and Morgan Ensburg’s solo homer in the 2nd. Molina narrowed the lead for the Tarantulas with a 2 run homer in the top of the 3rd, and Vazquez extended the Royals lead in the bottom half with his 2nd homer 6-2. Ramirez and Colbrunn hit solo homers in the 4th, narrowing the Royals lead to 6-5. In the top of the 7th, the Tarantulas scored 4 runs behind Ramirez’ 3 run homer to take their 1st lead of the game 9-7. Molina’s solo homer in the top of the 8th extended the Tarantulas lead. The Royals rallied in the bottom half on McNeil’s 2 run homer, but could get no closer, and the Tarantulas took the Series lead 3 games to 2 with the 10-9 victory.
Game 6 was another shootout, with 21 runs and 31 hits was a fitting end to this World Series. The Royals scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st on RBI doubles by Berry and Fielder. The Tarantulas took the lead 5-3 in the 2nd on Colbrunn’s solo homer and RBI singles by Guzman, Zorbist and Randolph. The Royals struck back in the top of the 3rd on Vazquez’ 2 run homer to take the lead 6-5. Colbrunn’s RBI double and Zorbist’s RBI triple put the Tarantulas back on top 9-6 in the bottom of the 5th. Solo Home Runs by Stanton and Colbrunn extended the Tarantulas lead 11-7 in the 6th. The Royals rallied in the 9th, but could fell short. The Tarantulas took the World Series with the 12-9 victory.
Greg Colbrunn was the Series MVP, leading the Tarantulas with an unbelievable .476 Avg, 2.333 OPS, 5 Home Runs 3 doubles, and 9 RBI.
Christian Vazquez led the Royals on offense with a .375 avg, 1.833 OPS, 5 home runs, 2 doubles and 10 RBI.

Torquay Tropics - 2070 World Series Champion
The Torquay Tropics swept the Littleton Red Bulls 4 games to 0 to win the 2070 World Series. The Tropics’ starting pitchers were in control the entire series, and the Tropics did not go to the bullpen in any of the 4 games.Chris Sale and Blake Snell battled in Game 1. Snell went 7, allowing 1 unearned run on 4 hits for the Red Bulls. Sale pitched a complete game for the Tropics, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits getting the complete game win. Dick Allen put the Red Bulls on top with a 2 run homer in the 2nd, and the Red Bulls held the lead into the 9th. The Red Bulls walked the first two batters in the 9th, and Pete Rose followed with a 2 run single, and scored on a wild pitch, giving the Tropics the victory 4-2.
David Cone pitched a compete game 5 hitter to earn the win in Game 2 for the Tropics. The Tropics offense exploded for 13 hits. Series MVP, Mike Piazza opened the scoring in the 1st with a 2 run homer. Ellis Valentine had a big game with 1 homer, 2 doubles, and 4 RBI, leading the Tropics to an 11-3 victory.
Hideo Nomo pitched a complete game, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, striking out 10 to take the win in Game 3. Melvin Mora put the Red Bulls on top with a 1st inning homer. The Tropics took the lead in the 2nd with a 2 run homer by Dale Murphy. The Red Bulls scored single runs in the 4th and 5th to take a 3-2 lead. The Tropics took the lead for good in the 6th on Mike Piazza’s 2 run homer, in route to a 6-3 victory.
Don Sutton and Ted Lilly battled in Game 4, into the 10th, both going the distance. The Red Bulls struck first on Bernie Williams’ solo homer in the 2nd. The Tropics tied the game in the 4th on Piazza’s solo homer. The game went to extra innings tied 1-1. With 1 out in the bottom of the 10th, Homer Bush hit a 2 run walk off homer to give the Topics the World Championship with the 3-1 victory.
Series MVP Mike Piazza finished the Series for the Tropics with a .375 Avg, 1.938 OPS, 1 double, 4 home runs and 7 RBI.
Dick Allen led the Red Bulls offense with a .400 Avg, 1.667 OPS, 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 3 RBI.

Albuquerque Dukes - 2069 World Series Champions
The Albuquerque Dukes won the 2069 World Series defeating the Bay City Black Stars 4 games to 1.The Dukes’ Jake Arrieta out battled Tom Cingrani to put the Dukes on top in Game 1. Arrietta allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, and Cingrani allowed 3 runs on 7 hits. The Black Stars took the early lead in the top of the 1st on Josh Hamilton’s RBI double. Edgar Martinez tied the game in the 2nd with a solo homer for the Dukes. With the game tied at 2, the Dukes squeaked ahead in the bottom of the 8th on Jeff Reed’s pinch hit RBI single to give the Dukes the victory 3-2.
Bob Welch pitched a perfect game in Game 2 giving the Dukes their 2nd win of the Series. The Dukes offense pounded out 14 hits in route to a 10-0 dominating victory. Rafael Furcal led the way with a RBI single, double and solo home run.
The Dukes (12) outhit the Black Stars (10) in Game 3. The Dukes Jeff Kent hit a RBI double in the 3rd and a 2 run double in the 4th giving the Dukes a 5-2 lead. The Dukes took a 7-3 lead on Brad Ausmus’ 2 run homer in the top of the 6th, and the Black Stars narrowed the lead to 7-6 in the bottom of the 6th on Ellis Burk’s 3 run homer. In the top of the 9th, Rich Aurilia and Ken Caminiti hit back to back solo homers to give the Dukes a 9-7 victory and a 3-0 Series lead.
The Black Stars got in the victory column in a fabulous Game 4 with an 11 inning victory. The Dukes scored 2 in the top of the 1st, but the Black Hawks responded to take a 5-2 lead behind Ozzie Smith’s 2nd inning RBI double and Rod Carew’s 3rd inning RBI single and 5th inning 2 run Homer. The Dukes narrowed the lead to 5-4 in the 7th and took a 6-5 lead in the 8th on George Foster’s 2 run homer. The Black Stars regained the lead in the bottom of the 8th on Richie Hebner’s 2 run homer. Kent tied the game in the 9th for the Dukes with a RBI single. Bryce Harper ended the game with a walk off 11th inning solo homer to give the Black Hawks the win 8-7.
Game 5 was a tough one for the Black Stars, who got things started scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on consecutive doubles by Harper, Carl Everet and Smith. In the 3rd Rod Carew ‘s RBI triple put the Black Stars up 4-0. Cingrani allowed only 5 hits, and took a 5-2 lead into the 8th when the wheels came off. The Dukes opened the 8th with a walk and bloop single, and Caminiti cleared the bases with a 3 run homer to tie the game. Martinez followed with a solo homer. In the 9th, Kent hit a solo homer to give the Dukes some cushion. Harper hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 9th for the Black Stars, but could do no more, and the Dukes won the World Championship with a 7-6 victory.
Jeff Kent was the Series MVP, batting .450 with 5 doubles 1 home run, 7 RBI and a 1.600 OPS.
Bryce Harper led the Black Stars offense with a .353 Avg, 1.529 OPS, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run.
