League Rules

Welcome! 1972 league rules

Non Contract League: A player is yours until you trade or cut him. In the first season, some players may be on multiple rosters. In subsequent years, imports should go to the team he played for the most (AB or IP). If there is a mistake made on imports, it is up to the owner to report the issue to the commissioner for fixing. ALL COMPLAINTS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO THE FIRST PITCH; ONCE GAME 1 IS PLAYED, IMPORTS ARE FINAL, RIGHT OR WRONG.

YOU MAY NOT TRADE PLAYERS BETWEEN YOUR TWO TEAMS. No player can play for both of your teams in the same season. This is a boot-able offense.

Team composition: 26/40 rosters. 4 man rotation in 1972, 5 man rotation in 1973 and beyond. 11 players (incl. 2 catchers), 9 p minimum. Cut players will form the free agent pool, waivers claims will run after game 1 beginning with the first appearance of free agents.

Initial minimums:
1972: 30 AB, 16 IP
1973: 75 AB, 25 IP

League composition: 20 teams (4 5-team divisions; division champs make the playoffs) 162 game regular season (based on 2, 10-team leagues).

Playoffs: best of 7.
Seeding: rank playoff teams by record. Otherwise, you risk punishing the top seed.
Ties: If teams tie for a playoff spot:
⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)

AWARDS: League Champion, MVP, Cy Young, and Manager of the Year (Best combined record)

Like all my two-team leagues:

⇒ No interleague play: your teams will not play each other unless they both make the world series.
⇒ Team selection in one league will be the reverse of the other. If you pick first in the National League, you will pick last in the American league.
⇒ You may not trade players between your teams. You may not release a player from one of your teams, then sign him on your other team. No player can play for both of your teams in the same season. This is a boot-able offense.

CONDUCT

Please keep all conversations clean
Please don't be rude to fellow owners
Please be active, if not active for 14 days you may be removed from the league
We all love baseball and that's why we're here. So Just have fun and enjoy!

OFF SEASON DUTIES:

Classic progression after world series. Players with less than 35 IP or 100AB will have their stats doubled.

Owners can switch stats from last season’s progressed stats to the next season’s actual stats. Minimums for stat switching: 100 AB/75 IP/40 IP. Must be done by the set deadline, and before the new season begins.

Imports: Your next years players will be imported on your roster as long as they are not already in league.

Advancement of contracts.

Trades (all season 99)

EXPANSION (Pre-1977): Good news!

Not only have we replaced the owners who left us after one season, we have added an owner, so we will have 2 12-team leagues this year.

It will take us a little while to get fully organized, but it will be an improvement. 4 teams per league (3 division winners and a wild card) will make the playoffs, instead of just 2. The only downside is you will get a couple fewer imports each year, as there will be no unused teams for the moment.

Beginning with the 1973 season, I will keep (and post on the homepage) each owner's career wins and losses in this league. Come 1977, there will be two additional teams in MLB: Seattle and Toronto. The two owners with the lowest career records in this league from 1973 through 1976 will have first crack at an expansion team.

If the owner takes an expansion team, he designates a team to drop. He will keep that present team's roster, but it will assume the name of the expansion team, and will get the expansion team's imports going forward.

The owner with the worst career record also has the option to NOT take one of the expansion teams. The next owner on the list then has the same choice. If a present owner quits before the end of the 1976 season (and hopefully during the offseason), the replacement owner will assume the record of the owner who quit. As I will have 4 teams beginning in 1973, it will be based on regular season winning percentage. Also, if any expansion teams are picked, the owners who did not choose an expansion team will have the option to pick a dropped team.

For example, let's say for argument's sake that BabeRuth21 has the worst record from 1973 through 1976, and Floyd113 has the second worst. Before the 1977 season, the expansion teams will be up for grabs. BabeRuth21 has the first pick, and declines. Floyd113, with the second worst record, is a BIG Blue Jays fan, and chooses to drop a team, say the Cubs. The Toronto Blue Jays will be Floyd113's National League team name: they will have the Cubs 1976 roster, but get the Blue jays 1977 imports. For argument's sake, let's say no one picks the Mariners.

Then, using the same order, but excluding Floyd 113, the owners can opt to replace their present team with the Chicago Cubs. BabeRuth21 could choose to do so, as he has the first pick. If he does, he keeps the roster of the team he designates to give up, but the team name changes to the Chicago Cubs, and from 1977 forward that franchise gets the Cubs imports.

The owners then in the same order, excluding BabeRuth21 and Floyd113, can opt to pick up the team dropped by BabeRuth21. NOTE: no matter how many owners change teams, each owner will only be allowed to change one team.

NOTE: If BabeRuth21 in this scenario chose NOT to take the Cubs, and someone else did further down the line, BabeRuth21, as the owner with the worst record from 1973 - 1976, would still have first crack at the new team that was traded in.

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
