Chicago White Sox Win World Series!

Story Photo
World Series MVP Les Moss
While the Brooklyn Dodgers were finishing off another dominant regular season by dropping four of six against the last-place but surging Pittsburgh Pirates, the Chicago White Sox were completing an amazing come-from-behind pennant-winning campaign as they won five in a row and 8 of 9 to overtake the New York Yankees on the final day, but when the World Series started it was the Dodgers that looked like the team on a roll with Cy Young award winning ace Don Newcombe shutting out the White Sox on just one hit. Chicago, though, did not seem bothered by that game 1 setback as they rolled off four straight victories to win the championship. World Series MVP Les Moss of the White Sox went hitless in game 1, but he bashed 5 homeruns in the next four games including a series-clinching, walk-off blast into the frenzied Chicago fans in the leftfield stands with one out in the 10th inning of game 5. The veteran catcher batted .500 with 10 RBI in Chicago's four wins.
