Quick Black Baseball update

Quick Black Baseball update

I have a quick note about this announcement:

https://www.pennantchase.com/home/b..

Someone has noticed there was a problem during the import of Bats/Throws and so I am currently fixing all the new players, so I would advise custom leagues to hold off on using these new stats just yet.

I'll post back here once the issue has been fixed. Thanks!

Update this has been fixed!!

Re: Quick Black Baseball update

When you click on one of the players, it gives an "Unexpected Error" message.

Re: Quick Black Baseball update

This is happening on a team I have already drafted - when you try to access the player "Card" it gives the Error Message.

Re: Re: Quick Black Baseball update

Is it just the Mandela effect or didn't we have negro league players around for awhile about 5-6 years ago ?

Re: Quick Black Baseball update

Negro players were never in the database before.

@Sheik thanks for the heads up, I have fixed the player cards in that league.

Re: Re: Quick Black Baseball update

Maybe I'm thinking of another site but one thing I am certain of is that the comedian Sinbad was never in a 90's movie about a genie , it was Shaq lol

Re: Quick Black Baseball update

Will these players be added to Ruthian Era too?

Re: Re: Quick Black Baseball update

I find it amusing that 2 of the biggest racists in baseball history are in this set - Ty Cobb and Dixie Walker.

Re: Quick Black Baseball update

@Shiek: I'm not so sure about that when it comes to Cobb. A recent mlb.com article states "We have zero evidence to suggest that Cobb was a racist," and offers a lot of evidence to the contrary.

Re: Re: Quick Black Baseball update

That's fair, Cobb hated everyone impartially !! 😎😎😎

Re: Quick Black Baseball update

I don't know if this affects the sim at all, but I noticed in the Black Mash Leagues that switch hitters are labeled "B" instead of "S" like in all of the other leagues.

Re: Quick Black Baseball update

Most of the stories of Cobb being a racist were invented in a biography that was written after he died by a writer named Al Stump. Stump had initially collaborated with Cobb on his autobiography (which did not include any of the claims about him being racist), but claimed that Cobb was difficult to work with because he resented the amount of editorial control Cobb insisted on having (over his own autobiography). He then later wrote a “tell-all” article after Cobb’s death and eventually his own book about Cobb that made all sort of sensationalist claims about Cobb (that he was a virulent racist, a violent drunk that he killed three people, etc.) that was used as the basis for the movie Cobb, but which later was demonstrated to have included forgeries and outright lies. For example, the book described three supposed fights Cobb had with black men…except that all three men were actually white.

In reality, Ty Cobb was descended from a long line of abolitionists and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Negro Leagues to the point that he was asked to throw out the first pitch at several games and often would sit in the dugout to visit with players. In 1952 he was quoted in The Sporting News as saying “ The Negro should be accepted wholeheartedly, and not grudgingly,” he said. “The Negro has the right to play professional baseball and whose [sic] to say he has not?” Cobb was known to be thin-skinned with a bad temper and was an aggressive player who was difficult to play against, but so much of what is assumed to be true about him are exaggerations and outright lies perpetrated by an (apparently) resentful sportswriter out to make a quick buck.

This article is one of the best I’ve seen at separating myth from reality about Ty Cobb: https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/who-..

Re: Quick Black Baseball update

I've been experimenting with some of the Negro League teams in Favorite Teams Leagues, certainly not easy to build a team and they aren't the best teams but some of the seasons are crazy statistically and it's fun to learn about different players and teams.
