The Other Wrigley Field

The Other Wrigley Field

Not many baseball fans are aware of the multiple Wrigley Fields. William Wrigley, the Cubs owner, also owned the PCL Los Angeles Angels - and Catalina Island. Wrigley had a park constructed in LA in 1925 on Avalon Blvd and 42nd Ave. that replicated the Chicago Stadium, including Ivy on the Walls. There was a practice field on Catalina Island that was informally called Wrigley Field where the Cubs did their spring training. The Angels used Wrigley Field through the 1957 season until the newly arriving Dodgers bought the team and moved it to Ft. Worth, Tex. When the expansion Angels came to the AL in 1961, they renovated the park and played their 1st season there while waiting for Dodger Stadium to be finished. The Dodgers considered playing at Wrigley when they moved to LA, but decided on the Coliseum instead. The Angels shared Dodger Stadium until the completion of Anaheim Stadium in 1966. Wrigley Field was used for many Movies and TV shows until it's demolition in 1969, including the popular (I watched it as a kid) Home Run Derby, the Twilight Zone episode "The Mighty Casey" and such movies as Pride of the Yankees, It Happens Every Spring, Damn Yankees and Angels in the Outfield among others. Martin Luthor King staged a rally at the park in 1966. The original site of the Wrigley diamond and grandstand is occupied by the Kedren Community Mental Health Center and another parking lot.

Re: The Other Wrigley Field

I remember watching all those episodes years ago on ESPN Classic . They would also show old episodes of twib and Johhny Bench's baseball bunch . Not sure if the channel is still around but it's on youtube . If you're too young to have seen it , watch it and enjoy the great game that we all love .
