Basketball Question
Basketball Question
So I've been playing in basketball league for a bit now with a few friends. I'm curious about DWS versus counting stats. For instance, let's say I have Wesley Person at SG with a 5 DWS but not many counting stats (4 REB, 2 ASS, 1.5 STL, .6 BLK). How would you compare him to someone like Carey Scurry, who had a low DWS 1.6 but high per 36 everywhere else (9 REB, 2.6 STL, 2.6 BLK). What's the calculus on this? Where would you give the minutes?
Re: Basketball Question
I don’t know how others would look at it, but I’d consider Scurry the more valuable piece because he’s increasing your odds of a steal, block or rebound where Person is only increasing your chance of a defensive stop.
Re: Basketball Question
this is a great debate question. Scurry minutes are low, but i take him 10 out of 10 times. i feek bdavids28 would argue this, so i am likely wrong then. maybe a great podcast question someday
Re: Re: Basketball Question
My calculus is this: Every steal or block is effectively the same as a Defensive Stop. It looks to me like (in my literal 2 months playing the basketball sim) roughly 3 DWS = 1 stop(ish)/36min. Each Steal or Block is also a Defensive Stop. So I tend to value the counting stats over the DWS. I'm in a custom league where I'm playing a PG with a 0.9 DWS but 2.1 SPG and 1.2 BPG (3.6 DS/game) over a 3 DWS guy with 0.5 SGP and 0.3 BPG (1.8 DS/game). That's my rough estimate. Of course, FG%, ORB (Offensive Rebounds are free possessions, almost like a DS; don't undervalue those), 3PM and FTA's are important too. Look at the whole picture.
