Relief Pitchers as Starting Pitchers
Relief Pitchers as Starting Pitchers
Top 3 teams in my baseball league have 3 relief pitchers in as starting pitchers. Seems like a way to game the system. How is this done?
Re: Relief Pitchers as Starting Pitcher
If a player is a starter with less than 100 IP they default as a reliever but you can "change role" to SP. It has mixed results as they only have 40 Stamina so they only pitch around 3 innings and you have to burn through other relievers to get through each game.

If you are talking about All-Time Greats Black Players Dynasty League, it's only using 4 man rotations.

I've never heard of this - is this really a thing? Can you show me a league where this is done?

This league hasn't started yet but this owner is going with 2 and as you said his pen will be taxed https://www.pennantchase.com/lgRost..
Re: Re: Relief Pitchers as Starting Pit
oh maybe it's a rule specific to favorite teams? Or auto-leagues - I guess I don't know much about those anymore.
Re: Relief Pitchers as Starting Pit
yeah, check out this lineup, they are in first place. i just started a team in a new league copying that type of pitching staff to see if it works for me, because using 5 dominant starters like the dodgers doesn't seem to work, they get crushed. its annoying to see kershaw and koufax get bombed or the tiant and kluber duo get bombed while these other teams use 3 openers and lead the league in era, lol

Re: Re: Relief Pitchers as Starting Pit
Switching Roles in Favorite Teams League to a SP with less than 85 IP (100 IP in budget) is a strategy - personally, I wouldn't have more than 1 SP in my rotation with a 40 fatigue rating, it's murder on your BP. The "Hack" for this is to find eligible pitchers (less than 85/100IP) but not more than 59. It would seem that 60 is the magic # for getting the reduction to 40 fatigue, anything less and you get the player's actual fatigue #.
Re: Relief Pitchers as Starting Pit
I have used this strategy in Fav Teams but wish gbacci would take the option away to convert low ip guys to SP's. Why does it only exist in Fav Teams?
The "hack" is that you can build an elite bullpen and rotation with very little spent on budget, then stack your lineup. Why I have used the strategy, I always wondered why it was allowed in Fav Teams and nowhere else.

Re: Relief Pitchers as Starting Pit
Sometimes I rock no more than 2 RPs with 40 stamina as SPs, but only if I have at least one additional RP with 40 stamina to help ease the burden on the rest of the bullpen
Re: Re: Relief Pitchers as Starting Pit
I definitely use this all the time. Very hard to find an elite starter for under 3 DWAR, but you can often find 2-3 elite RP- SP (like 1WHIP, 0.6 H/9) for under that price. An easy way to find them is do a search filter for SP max 3 WAR and look for the best ratios. If they show up under the SP filter, but are labeled as RP, that means they started atleast 1 game that season, and therefore can be converted to SP. So add them, go to your roster, click the player's name, and there's a box labeled Change Role, and you can change them to SP (but likely with a 40 pitch count). I would never have 3 in my starting rotation, but 2 spaced out in the rotation with a 3rd as Long Relief (or emergency starter) is reasonable. Use the WAR you saved on the top end of your bullpen (and make sure you go 6-7 deep), on 2 elite starters, or 1 more slugger for the lineup.
