I know someone had 21 in a 16-inning game back in the 60s.

Tom Cheney struck out 21 in 16 innings against the orioles and threw 228 pitches which makes me wonder if thats a record .

I don't need google , I remember in 1974 when I was 8 reading a book calledThe Glory of TheirTimes by Lawrence Ritter . If you are a fan of the game this is a must read . That same game his opponent Joe Oescheger also went the distance and the longest game in MLB history finished in a 1 all tie . Now days most pitchers wont pitch 26 innings in a month !!

310 wins in only 11 seasons !! It must have took a lot out of him because unfortunately he died at the age of 42 . To put his season in perspective think about this , his 73 cg are 10 more than all of MLB combined for the last 2 plus seasons .

Side note on Old Hoss - he shared pitching duties with Charles Sweeney in 1884 until Sweeney was kicked off the team for drinking between innings and fighting with the manager. Radbourn offered to pitch every game for the rest of the season in exchange for a small raise and exemption from the reserve clause for the next season. From that point, July 23 to September 24 when the pennant was clinched, Providence played 43 games and Radbourn started 40 of them and won 36. Soon, pitching every other day as he was, his arm became so sore he couldn't raise it to comb his hair.
