Trivia

This one should be easy , who has the record for most strikeouts in a game ?

Re: Trivia

Define a game and for whom the strikeouts are for

I believe 9-inning game by a pitcher was 20 by Clemens, Kerry Wood & Scherzer?

I know someone had 21 in a 16-inning game back in the 60s.

By a hitter isn't it something like 6?

This came up last week at work lol

Re: Re: Trivia

Tom Cheney struck out 21 in 16 innings against the orioles and threw 228 pitches which makes me wonder if thats a record .

Re: Trivia

Bubbles yes it is

According to good ol' google:

Tom Cheney holds the all-time Major League Baseball (MLB) record for the most strikeouts in a single game, recording 21 strikeouts in a 16-inning complete-game victory for the Washington Senators against the Baltimore Orioles on September 12, 1962.The record for the most strikeouts in a standard 9-inning game is 20, shared by several pitchers:

*the AI overview lists a handful of names and dates of the feat for each. Tbh I just didn't care enough to also copy and paste all that lol*

Although if you were referring to the pitch count, THAT is not a record

Google's answer to that is:

The record for the most pitches by one pitcher in a single Major League Baseball (MLB) game is 360 pitches, thrown by Leon Cadore in 1920. Pitch counts were not officially tracked during the early 1900s, but historical estimates credit Cadore with this total across an unprecedented 26 innings. For the modern era, the unofficial record belongs to Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, who threw 235 pitches in a 13-inning game against the Boston Red Sox on June 14, 1974.
