Tweek Suggested

Tweek Suggested

https://www.pennantchase.com/lgRepl..

I know this Box score will disappear at some point because PC doesn't save every game's box score, which is fine.

in the game above my team was ahead 3-1 going to bottom of the 9th, with 2 outs Mike Laga walked, he was replaced by a PR who was then thrown out trying to steal 2nd,

No MLB Manager would EVER try to steal 2nd, down 2 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, ever, -cant argue intelligently against this decision, simply a tweek.

I assume you can code this in Guy?

Re: Tweek Suggested

Didn't Babe Ruth get thrown out stealing 2nd base to end a World Series?

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

Was it a 1 run game? if not, still stupid

Re: Tweek Suggested

No argument about it being stupid. More a testament to athletic arrogance, I think. Cards leading 3-2, 2 outs in the 9th, Ruth draws a walk. On the first pitch to Meusel, Ruth took off for 2nd. Meusel swung and missed, Ruth was thrown out. Cards win the 1926 World Series. Maybe a failed hit and run play. Maybe not. Just an example of a situation that should maybe not happen but does. That's baseball. Played by fallible human beings. So maybe the odds on what happened should be slim, but probably not none.

Re: Tweek Suggested

Agreed, there should be certain situations where things don't happen regardless of settings. Just had this one happen to me, which I understand is a result of my surprise bunt setting, but still, that's not an appropriate spot.

Top 9 - Mariners 2, Astros 6
Randall grounds out.
Jordan grounds out.
Hynes hard single to center.
Mahan hit by pitch.
Silber surprise bunt. Hynes out at third.
Game Over

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

BHGray - not only does this happen sometimes, the Reds literally beat the Brewers last week because of this exact situation. Brewers were down one in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and the tying run on third against the Reds closer (who was in meltdown mode). Blake Perkins for the Brewers surprise bunted and popped it up for an easy out to end the game. It was an incredibly stupid decision (cameras actually caught the Brewers manager shaking his head and saying “what the f—-“), but it does happen. So think of these situations as simulating the experience of players making dumb decisions on their own rather than as things that would never happen.

Re: Tweek Suggested

those e games were 1 run games versus a 2 run lead in my opponents case, these two situations are apples and oranges, they really don't have any relevance

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

Still, I thought the examples were interesting and I enjoyed reading them. Just part of the chat box experience of throwing out a topic and having others weigh in with their thoughts. Unless you meant this to be a complaint about the site and didn't want anyone disagreeing with you - then you should probably just send it straight to Guy.

Re: Tweek Suggested

It wasn't a complaint, simply pointing out an obvious bit of insanity, like when I pointed out the SIM pinch ran for my only catcher after he tripled - made no sense - he was on 3rd base with zero or 1 out.

And of course other things are interesting, but the instances brought just didn't fit the same scenario.

Re: Tweek Suggested

When you have pinch running set and a player set to be allowed to steal, s**t happens. We are talking of a computer, not a human with logic, something which always seems to be forgotten on PC. Can gbacci code logic?? Of course not…

Is this situation ludicrous? Sure. But the computer just follows the settings it is given.

Re: Tweek Suggested

If you play enough....u will see all kinds of crazy stuff. I have had the computer Mgr make moves where he pulled my starter and he was throwing a 1 hit shutout thru 7 innings in a 1 run game. Setup guy promptly gave up the lead and I lost that game. And my starter only had like 80 pitches thrown. No reason whatsoever to pull him. And the base running...has always been suspect. Guys are pretty much station to station runners.....and most do not score from 2nd base on hits. Deep sac Flys and runners are still standing on third. Hopefully those are things that can get tweeked. Would also love to throw my #1 starter at least 3 times in a series....but as of now, it is just the two starts.

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

I realize that correct spelling, like correct grammar and correct punctuation, is a bygone preference these days, but, um... it's 'tweak', not 'tweek'...

I think 'tweek' was a lascivious come-on practiced by lap dancers at the Mos Eisley Cantina in an r-rated outtake from 'Star Wars'.

Incorrigible - a person who refuses to be corrected, improved, or reformed.

Re: Tweek Suggested

C'mon. This site is entertaining is sooooo many ways. I know this is the incorrect spelling of so. So, sound it out.

Sincity. I get it. The situation you described is frustrating. I do also love the commentaries on "logic". (picture air quotes).

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

But it didn't happen to ME - that's part of my point, you shouldn't lose a game like THAT.

There is no value whatsoever to steal 2ne base, down 2 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, none, say you steal 2nd, if the batter singles and you score, you are still down a run - why take the chance of getting thrown out stealing a worthless base, when the batter might hit a HR and Tie the game? - Especially in PC where there is no possibility of an errant throw on the steal attempt, it's a horrible baseball play. no one would do that - I still remember the Red Sox trailing by a run in the 9th inning and Steve Lyons was on 2nd base, he was thrown out trying to steal 3rd to end the game, that's STILL one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen in MLB-

I also don't think I deserve the Slam from Gus - I am trying to be proactive pointing out something that can make the games better and I guess he took my tenor as angry or dismissive, it was not intended to be.

Re: Tweek Suggested

In real baseball, there is very much a benefit to stealing 2nd in that situation, to stay out of force at 2nd. But also, the opposing team usually doesnt hold the runner and gives them the base. In this sim, since that doesnt happen, there is zero benefit to trying to steal with the tying run at the plate.

However, you can avoid this in your settings, with the shut down run while trailing by 2 or more. Yes, it sucks because earlier in the game you wouldnt want to stop stealing and try to get the game closer, but it will prevent it from happening in the 9th.

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

Not a slam, Sin - just poking fun at you for not admitting your spelling of tweak was wrong. Instead, you googled it and found an app named tweek, but it's still not a word. I really enjoy poking fun at you and a few others on the site. Please don't take that away from me or I'll have very little left!!! :)

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

That's a cool thing about baseball, sometimes we see things that defy experience and logic. What would we say if the sim turned out the Javy Baez play against the Pirates? Two outs, runner at second, ground ball to 3B, runner safe at home on the throw! What?? Guy would be getting emails about that! But it happened in real life. Maybe this play here was the runner taking second uncontested as YankeeBB pointed out often happens, but he slipped and fell down and the catcher then threw him out to end the game.

Re: Tweek Suggested

Imagine the meltdowns that would occur if the sim intentionally walked a player with the bases loaded ala Barry Bonds.

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

Or if the Sim said “pine-tar incident - batter out” or “ball hit bird” or “fan interference” or “game called due to weather” when your team is up by 7 but it’s only the 3rd inning, or …
You just never know in baseball.
I’d love to see Guy add some of those in, even if it only happens once every millionth game.

Re: Tweek Suggested

Used to play statis pro baseball and they had a weird occurrance chart. I liked that game better than apba.

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

oh my god mrbubbles, I may have misjudged you! When I was in the Army in Germany in 1982-85 I bought Statis Pro Baseball in the PX because both me and my roomie from Ohio loved baseball, and years before I had a game called Longball

I don't remember what season we had, but I do remember that we played a LOT of games just chilling and The odd Z or CD BD plays were always suspenseful as were injuries - Guy PC really could use some TWEAK - did you note that Gus? LOL to add these rarities - I still remember trembling if Carlton Fisk was hurt, he only played like 40 games due to injury.

Re: Tweek Suggested

Where were you stationed ? was in mannheim 85-89. It was about that time everyone started getting commodore 64 computers and micro league baseball came out which the replay feature of this game has always reminded me of. Micro league also had a disk to enter your own teams but the internet did not exist then so you had to find the baseball encyclopedia which wasn't easy in West Germany. lol great times

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested

I served in the, 4th of the 1st Air Defense Artillery Battalion, assigned to the First Infantry Division, Big Red One from 1982-1986 - in Karlsruhe and then Manheim at BFV.

I operated a Short range Radar system designed to protect against low flying aircraft by sending their positions to Vulcan and Chapparal units.

About half way through my initial assignment I became the Battalion Major's, the 2nd in Commands, Driver, and basically did whatever TOP needed unless we were in the field, GREAT times, best of my life,

Re: Tweek Suggested

Re: Re: Tweek Suggested
