Algorithms

Algorithms

Has anyone, that competes in multiple leagues, noticed that when you start a losing streak in one of your teams, they all follow suit? I am in 4 leagues and have seen this several times throughout the season. I'm wondering if this has to do with the program algorithm. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Re: Algorithms

Howdy, well I made the website, but that doesn't mean everyone believes what I say all of the time. Nonetheless, all I can do is share what I've coded, and I can promise you with 1000% certainty there is no connection between the outcomes of teams - be it teams of the same owner or even teams in the same league. Each game is simulated individually. It's like flipping a coin and getting heads 25 times in a row, it can happen because the prior flip has zero impact on the next flip.

Re: Re: Algorithms

But INJURIES DO come within a 1-2 day period, it's not random -

Re: Algorithms

The fun thing about statistics is that you can find anomalies everywhere. The other fun thing about statistics is that if the data pool is big enough, everything ends up exactly where it’s supposed to be.

Re: Re: Algorithms

Guy, please respond to SinCity’s claim. His experience is not my experience and I don’t believe for a second that the Sim bunches injuries just to mess with people who may or may not be paranoid. I could be wrong, but would love to hear the truth and perhaps have another conspiracy theory debunked by the only one who knows for sure. Thanks!

Re: Algorithms

People just need to be educated about elementary variance statictical probabilitites.

Ah well, it's to long to elaborate. At the end of the road, nothing is a simple clear line, there is up and downs,etc...

Re: Re: Algorithms

in response to Gus's impassioned if not oblivious defense of Guy regarding injuries, I in no way meant that a rash of injuries hits the same team at the same time, but instead that if you have say 10 active teams you will go 5 -7 days, at 3 games a day per team with either suffering 1 injury or none, then 3 days later 3 teams suffer an injury and the next day one or two more- then repeat the cycle, it's not punitive, just the way injuries seem to occur

Re: Algorithms

Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean everyone’s not out to get you. 😁😆🤣

I wasn’t defending Guy. I was just defending math and common sense.

Re: Re: Algorithms

Theres only one stat that matters , score 1 more run than the other team and you will win 100 pct of the time. I once won 2 games in a row where I was no hit the first game but won 1-0 and the 2nd game had a perfect game thrown against me thru 9 but got a hit in the 10th and won again 1-0. Over the course of those two games my team went 1 for 57 !!

Re: Algorithms

I loved the original post, because while I know there’s no correlation, I just had my real good teams suddenly go through losing stretches at same time. That includes a team that was 64-39 and then went 5-24 (losing to top and bottom teams).

Re: Re: Algorithms

Of course, both things could be true.

SCM & OP could be correct that injuries (and other things) are positively correlated, while Guy is also correct that there's no correlation in the code. Correlations have been found before in quasi-tRNGs, even for very large samples.

Re: Algorithms

I don’t even know how I would begin to code some sort of coordinated injury schedule, but yes I have many teams going at once and it certainly can feel at times like similar things are happening at once to my teams. As far as injuries go though, I personally have never experienced any sort of obvious patterns but it wouldn’t surprise me that some people do, especially if you have a lot of teams going at once.

Chaos theory - just ask Jeff Goldblum 🤔🤔🤔😉😉😉😎😎😎
