The time has come... for a redesign!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. It’s been a hectic back-half of 2024 for me, and I appreciate everyone’s patience if I’ve been slower to respond to issues and questions. I continue to be so thankful for this amazing community of sports fans. We’ve really cultivated an excellent group! (I don’t think I saw any political posts this election season, which is frankly unheard of, especially since it was such a close and emotional election for so many. So thank YOU for keeping it clean and making my job a little easier.)
I’m using some holiday season time to dive into a much-needed Pennant Chase update: We badly need to refresh the site design. Our current design has lasted about 7 or 8 years, which is a long time in tech-land. But due to our old design, we’re not able to take advantage of some of the more modern features unless we rebuild the site. I started working on this a couple years ago, and I’m almost ready to start rolling out pages. So, over time, you’re going to see the site slowly transition. I like doing a slow migration, as it allows for issues to be fixed and suggestions to be made as we go, rather than a big-bang shock to the system.
Redesigns are always challenging because users become accustomed to what they have. It always takes a little time to adjust, but I truly think this will be a beneficial upgrade. Rest assured, the basics of the site are going to be the same - everything should feel very familiar, just nicer. Some of the enhancements will include more screen real estate for wide screens, a dark mode option, a cleaner, modern feel, as well as many other improvements as I progress through the website. I’ll also try my best to re-think advertising placements and see if we can’t make the site more tolerable as it relates to ads as well.
I’ve also got some wild ideas to add to the site as I go, but I’m not announcing or promising anything just yet because I want to make sure some of my ideas are feasible before making them public.
This will not be a short process. There are a LOT of pages on Pennant Chase to migrate. I wouldn't be shocked if I'm working on this throughout 2025. But once completed, I'm hopefully this will last a decade much like the last redesign did.
Thanks as always for your patience and your continued support of the best FREE sports sim site around - as most of you know, this is a hobby/passion project, so it would not be possible without your continued support, whether that be a donation or being a commissioner or just finding issues or making recommendations!
