The Houston Astros cap of a dominant regular season with a run through the playoffs enroute to their 2nd World Series Title in 4 years. Prior to their recent dominance of 4 American League West titles in the last 4 years, they had never made it to the World Series.
The Astros came into the Post Season with the best record in baseball (104-58) having claimed The American League West Division. Lead by their field general, FJS, they shook off a Game 1 loss to the Chicago White Sox in the Divisional Round of the playoffs to win 3 of the next 4 games. The deciding Game 5 saw the White Sox jump out early, only to be overwhelmed by the hot hitting Astros. Joe Morgan, Earl Averill and Jeff Bagwell all had 2 RBI. Bruce Sutter picked up a 2 inning save. Trevor Bauer earned the win.
In a rematch of the 2034 Playoffs the Astros came up against the defending World Series Champion Cleveland Indians in the League Championship series. The Astros took Games 1 and 2 at home to set the tone of the series. By taking game 4 in dominating fashion, it was only a matter of time. They finished the Indians off in Game 6. Roy Campanella had the GWRBI in the bottom of the 7th. Randy Myers picked up the win with Keith Foulke getting the save. Louis Tiant continued a dominant stretch of playoff pitching for the Indians. He came up short in an 8 IP, 4 H, 126 pitch performance
In the World Series the Indians faced the pesky Pittsburgh Pirates (dalbey52) winners of the National League Central with an 88-74 record. The Pirates cruised to the World Series with a 3 game sweep of the National League West winning Los Angeles Dodgers and a 4 games to 1 series victory over the Wild Card Atlanta Braves. This was the Pirates 1st World Series appearance since the 2028 season.
The Astros made quick work of the Pirates with a 4 game sweep.
