Annoying ads

Annoying ads

Hi
I know that ads pay for this but in the last day or so the ads have become very intrusive taking up a good portion of the screen. When I minimize it, because the X is so small I end up going to the bloody ad site which is probably the first intention of the bloody thing. Subway. There isn’t a bloody Subway where I live!

Re: Annoying ads

Do you mean the sandwich shop or mode of transportation?

Re: Annoying ads

As I read this, I’m sitting in a Subway right NOW, enjoying a delicious Turkey Breast and Bacon on an Italian bun. Mmmmmm. So good!

I think I should get a free sandbox league for fully embracing the ads and letting them influence my life choices. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Re: Re: Annoying ads

I know the ads are an annoyance, most particularly for smaller mobile or tablets... (I have a fairly big phone and hardly notice them, but I get that's not what everyone has)... I can promise to continue to monitor how necessary the pop up ads are, and if it turns out they need to stay long term, I will explore all options to make the site as user friendly as possible...

- potentially the ads don's need to remain on page for as long
- I can work on shrinking the top nav bar, to allow for more to appear at the top of the screen without an initial scroll
- I can think about a donation modal that is truly ad-free
-etc...

Re: Annoying ads

I truly do not mind ads. They help keep the site afloat. None of the ads up to this point have been a problem whatsoever. But these pop up ads are driving me absolutely crazy. Please reconsider using them. Thank you

Re: Annoying ads

I agree. Have never had a problem until these infolinks. If you close they just come right back as you navigate the site. Just awful.

Re: Annoying ads

Yeah they bothered me too. But then, I decided to answer all the yes or no questions. Now every time it pops up, it just says β€˜thanks for being honest’, and that brings a smile to my face.

Re: Annoying ads

Like any change, there's a transition period that can be difficult to adjust to, but really these ads aren't that bad.

Re: Re: Annoying ads

The next couple days I will get some baselines and try some things to limit the impact... I appreciate what BHGRAY is saying, and I think that's true to an extent, but I also understanding people have different screens and devices so not everyone is having the same level of interference and for some it's pretty bad.

Re: Annoying ads

If it’s what the site needs to thrive, keep the ads coming.

Re: Re: Annoying ads

Thank you Thanos for the comment... everyone, expect to see some experimenting this weekend and into next week as I try some things and figure out the impact to the ad revenue... thanks everyone for hanging in there.

Re: Annoying ads

Hi all
Yeah, I am totally onboard with the fact the ads monetise a 'free site' and I have let my donation lapse so I don't have too much leverage really. its just the new 'infolinks' pops up and takes up about a third of my nearly obsolete i6. Ads for Subway sandwiches and Lexus luxury cars have no cache for me as I live in a small village of about 600 with two stores and the only way in is by bush plane or ice road in the winter. To be honest, I could demolish a footlong Italian! But, thanks Gbacci - great site and certainly passes the time for me!
Cheers,
Spaniels

Re: Annoying ads

I miss the t-shirt girl....

Re: Annoying ads

The ads are intrusive and totally irrelevant and muck up a beautiful thing! Makes the site hard to navigate as a league commissioner and just plain annoying as a team owner. Please do away with.

Re: Re: Annoying ads

I am not for ads, who is? But I get the explanation and the side adds I don't even notice. The bottom banner is the biggest one but the video is very good at explaining the why and how to navigate around it.
Better than having to pay.

Re: Re: Annoying ads

Gus, you already HAVE a sandbox! Why would you get 2 while the rest of us $20 donors only get 1???

Jk lol πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£

Re: Annoying ads

Because I DESERVE 2 of them!! Lol
I could have so much fun with an extra one. Oh the plans I have. You wouldn’t even believe it!!

Re: Re: Annoying ads

You can have my sandbox. I have no idea how to work it.

Re: Re: Annoying ads

Was her t-shirt wet?

Re: Annoying ads

No not wet...

It was tasteful.

Re: Re: Annoying ads

I’m all for the adds, this site must be a ton of work and expense to run. One of the reasons I joined here was it was free to play so the risk was low if I did not like it. I ended up spending so much time on here I became a donor. If the add revenue keeps this site going and is a draw for people to join I can live with ignoring them, they are less intrusive here then they are on many major news sites and such.
