Lineup advice from experienced owners?

Lineup advice from experienced owners?

ATGs league. C. Jones wasn't hitting with 1999 stats, and I had him at SS and he was solid.
Then I could play T. Williams at DH.
Giambi at 1B,
Foxx at 3B
And I had R Henderson as 3rd OF.
My D was tight despite Foxx and Jones at secondary pos.
So, with slow offensive start from Jones, I changed his stats to 08, and moved him to 3B cuz 08 has him as 3B/DH. but then needed a SS. I have Banks n Vizquel for Def n SPD , but will have to use one.
My question is this:
Which option is better: Jones at 99 stats, at SS, Foxx 3B, Giambi 1B, Williams at DH, Henderson in OF?
Or, Jones at 99, playing 3B, Vizquel or Banks at short ?
Or, Jones at 08, playing 3rd? Thanks.

I wouldn't call your D "tight." It's not in the negative in the D +/- category, but you're still in the bottom half of the league.

Negative DWAR at SS is a no-no. Put in Ernie Banks at SS, move Chipper to third with 99 stats. Banks will be stellar defensively, and while he won't hit for average, he can still bash 20-30 home runs.

Also, Ichiro needs to be in CF. Change Alomar to 99 stats; batting is basically the same, but you get a nice DWAR boost.

Thanks. The first 10 games with Jones at SS, and Foxx at 3rd, I think I only had 2 errors. Then I changed his stats and Defense went to hell. You're saying Ichiro over Speaker??

No. At the time, I believe you had Ichiro either at LF or RF. You generally want the outfielder with the highest DWAR at centerfield.

However, with your lineup now, it's tough to fit him in. Probably best to just use him as a defensive replacement.

Thanks for.taking the time

Re: Lineup advice from experienced

Foxx, Giambi, Klein combo is tough. They should all be DH only, or maybe one of them at 1B with one other at DH. I'd really try to trade one of them for an upgrade anywhere else.

For defense... you can take your D number minus the errors to get a "net defensive" impact. A negative D is essentially an error... an out-turned-into-a-hit. No real difference except in the box score. And a positive D number is essentially a negative error... a hit-turned-into-an-out. So just net out those two columns (E- D = Net defense) for a clearer picture of what each player is doing on defense.

Also, maybe by design, but it looks like you only adjusted your "vs RHP" lineup... Chipper is still at SS vs lefties... and on the season (overall, all positions) he has 5 errors and +1 dW. That's effectively the same as 4 errors OR 0 errors and -4 D. He's hurting you on defense when he's played at SS, even with a + D number.

Klein has an error and -4 D. That's like 5 net errors. If you could flip him for an upgrade anywhere, you could put Ichiro in CF and be better overall. Or flip Giambi and put Klein at DH, still inserting Ichiro.

My never-ending quest is to find a valuation to compare dW to hitting to find a total value of a player... hard to quantify... but errors and/or negative D get me fired up!

Put Banks at short for sure!
