Deep fly ball to center?

Deep fly ball to center?

I love this site, very fun. One problem is with 0 or 1 out and a man on 3rd a deep fly ball to center sometimes (maybe every time?) doesn't score a run. I mean in real life every mlb player can score from 3rd on a deep fly to center.
Thanks folks.

Re: Deep fly ball to center?

Currently, any PC runner with a speed of 1 or 2 does not score on a fly ball.

I completely agree that world-class athletes, no matter how "slow" compared to their faster MLB teammates, should all be able to score from 3rd base on a deep fly ball. Harold Baines, even at his slowest, could still outrun my grandfather, and my grandfather could run 90 feet to beat a throw and relay from the warning track.

I'd love to see 1-speeds and 2-speeds be able to score on fly balls at least 20% of the time.

Re: Re: Deep fly ball to center?

Thanks for the info...i will look at replacing Baines with your grandfather. Lol

Re: Re: Deep fly ball to center?

How does the SIM handle 1 or 2 Speeds scoring from 2B on a 1B with with 2 outs? any idea what that % is? I'm thinking it's pretty RARE

I know you need a Bloop or Looping hit but generally even then it's almost never.
I can remember Bill Nahorodny, a 1 Speed Catcher, scoring on a 2 out, looping hit to Right once and was SHOCKED - I replayed the game just to make sure it actually happened!

Also, does the fact you have a BIG Disadvantage Park increase the odds of scoring on a deep fly out? because it should, does the Sim consider that and conversely make it harder to Tag up on a Big Boost park?

Re: Deep fly ball to center?

I know a larger field (big disadvantage) does help speedy players with extra bases, so it would stand to reason that normal speed players would also get a small bonus but I haven't been around long enough to tell you how much.

Also, I've seen some guys get put out at home plate during critical game moments so be careful what you wish for.

Re: Re: Deep fly ball to center?

It SHOULD stand to reason that its easier to tag up in big Disadvantage Parks and harder in Big Boost parks - BUT the real question is DOES the SIM consider that?

It really should, if an owner chooses to reduce Homers by having deeper outfield walls, the ability to tag up should increase, in fact a fly out to Deep Center in a Big Disadvantage park could also let an 8-10 speed runner tag up and go to 2nd once in a while, it does happen in real life, I've seen it plenty of times at Fenway Park when guys fly out to the 420 mark in CF.

Re: Deep fly ball to center?

We need more details on you seeing this at Fenway. Are you talking against JBJ's cannon, or Damon/Ellsbury noodles? Grandpa once tagged from 1st on a routine fly to Damon and ended up on third...standing.

Re: Re: Deep fly ball to center?

Oh, there's no doubt that the arm strength of the Outfielder also matters, but sometimes it's just how difficult a catch it was that allows the runner to advance, you rarely camp under one hit to the 420 mark, and as I said -once in a while, not really common.

But you make a great point, there are LOTS of Center Fielders without fantastic arms, they run down balls and take away gappers, that's huge, if a runner goes from 1B to 2B after a basically stolen hit, who cares? as a Manager I'll take the out all day long.
