Astros being jerks, part 87

Astros being jerks, part 87

And now I would contend that we have video evidence of their cheating methods. It's pretty ugly. I vote that PC delete all Astros who definitely benefited from these rules violations. Sorry Alex Bregman, but you're definitely out.

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

2 questions:

1) Did I miss something?

2) Do I want even want to know? 😂😂

Re: Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Astros cheat.

Former pitcher says they steal signs. (Edit: "illegally" steal signs)
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id..

Here's some of the damning evidence:

https://youtu.be/SftEFwbpmic?t=1059..
Before every change up, you'll hear a *bang bang* (allegedly) coming from the Astros dugout. No one is on base, but they know the changeup is coming and bang twice to tell the batter.

1-1 pitch: *bang bang* change up taken for a ball.
2-1 pitch: (no bang) fastball fouled off
2-2 pitch: *bang bang* change up, fouled down the line
2-2 pitch: (no bang) fastball fouled off
2-2 pitch: *bang bang* Farquhar steps off, calls his catcher out to the mound to change the signs.
2-2 pitch: strike out.

This game was September 22, 2017 - one month before they won the World Series...

Allegedly, they used whistles and flashing lights at other times... whistles are harder to pick up on the broadcasts since there are a lot of whistles, but the banging is pretty clear.

Astros are cheaters. All of their stats should be cut in half in the sim. (sarcasm... at least while I still have Springer)

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

OK, First of all, I am tired of all this nonsense about " Stealing Signs" it is ONLY illegal if you use an electronic device such as an Apple Watch, or camera -

If I can give my batter and runners an advantage as to what type of pitch is coming and don't do it,what kind of a team mate am I? isn't the objective to win the game?

Find a better way to hide your signs if you don't want them stolen, the fact that the Astro's used electronic devices makes them cheaters, besides that they are just trying to win and using every legal advantage they can

It is not illegal to steal signs. There is no rule against it, and certain players and coaches excel at the art. There is, however, a directive dating to 2001 that prohibits the use of electronic devices in the dugout or the use of binoculars. The use of the Apple Watch would clearly violate this directive.

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Dwayne, couldn't agree more. @#$% the Astros- so glad they didn't win another Series.

The entire organization defames and degrades the Great American Game. Be gone with them!

Re: Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

I'm beginning to se why Kershaw couldn't keep a 4 run lead in game 5 of the '17 series.......

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Now you're just being mean

Re: Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Sincity: you're right. I added an edit to say "illegally" steal signs.

:)

I agree wholeheartedly on stealing signs from second base, for instance. Or watching for tipped pitches. All part of the game.

But a camera in the outfield with a video feed into the runway to the clubhouse for the dugout to then signal the pitches.... Nope.

Knowing the pitch that is coming is a bigger help than taking steroids. Turns the "duel" into batting practice.

Makes the whole World Series thing even odder that they couldn't win at home.

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

The solution is to have a secure witeless connection between pitcher/catcher. If we're going high tech, go all the way.

Re: Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Dwayne - Just sayin', if the Astros were cheating in the '17 regular season did they say before the playoffs "well, we made the playoffs, now we can stop cheating" ? If they knew what Kershaw was going to throw, well - you can fill in the blanks. I'll just say this: when I was watching that game, and Houston hit HR after HR, I said to a friend of mine "it's almost like they know what pitch is coming".

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Sheik, Got it. I thought you were taking a shot at Kershaw. At this point, and as a massive Dodgers fan, even I wouldn't have called it an unfair shot. But yes, he was dealing that series. Pitching is much harder when the hitters know what's coming.

Re: Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

I knew there was something I liked about you Dwayne - I'm a lifelong Dodgers fan myself ;-)

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Also dodgers fan, though maybe nats go, well astros suck anyway

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Kershaw is a great pitcher that deserves no offense

Re: Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

confidently agere with anyone against kershaw

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Astro's aren't the only one's. Sorry but Mike Fiers should be blackballed like Canseco was. True shouldn't use tech to steal signs, but i find it more disgusting that Fiers snitched. Why did he, hmm because maybe they traded his butt. Plus he was part of that team

Re: Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

That's like saying "Sleepy Bill" Burns shouldn't have testified about the 1919 World Series - I'm sorry, but I want to know if somebody is cheating.

Re: Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

Mikeyyy: I'm torn on this. Part of me agrees with you.

BUT... if you get traded to a new team, your loyalty lies with that new team. If you DIDN'T tell your new teammates what to watch for, I think that's worse.

I think that's why there were all of these rumors for so long... People would leave Houston and tell their new teammates, but no one wanted to be the snitch. So who knows how many seasons have been tainted by this scandal because it flew under the radar for so long.

Best thing for MLB would have been for a former player to confide in them and let them handle it without the press. That said, the way it's playing out now will be the surest way to clean it up.

Re: Astros being jerks, part 87

RITZCARDS2.. Well it didn't start til they switched leagues in 2013. First 2 seasons they were way below 500 with 51 and 70 wins, then they had 2 above 500 season barley. with 86 and 84 wins Then in 2017 through 2019 they had 101,103 and 107 wins. So could make a case it started in 2015.

They will never be able to stop this completely. Teams will find a new way. Some new tech will come out, lol. I have to admit, astros were pretty stupid to bang on a trash can lmao
