Re: Ad Free Experience

Re: Ad Free Experience

Yeah ads suck, and yes I do want to offer this, but for me they’ve been better than past years mainly because ad technology has improved to the point where they don’t slow down my computer like they used to. And some of the baseball videos I actually enjoy.

That said I’m curious since it sounds like you are someone who didn’t mind it before what triggered the desire to have that option?

Re: Re: Ad Free Experience

I block ads at my home network using a pi-hole so I do not see them. I do not think they would bother me on a desktop browser but on mobile devices they are unbearable IMO. Not so much that they exist, but the way they intrude on the content and user experience.

Re: Ad Free Experience

I think Mark hits the point, its mobile user experience.

Guy, any insight into the breakdown of users mobile vs desktop?

Re: Re: Ad Free Experience

Edit: I just looked and it’s actually about 65-35 in favor of desktop. I don’t know how much ads play into that but since this is such a data heavy game I’m not totally surprised.

For me, mobile ads have never intruded - yes, I get the small video in the lower corner sometimes, but not often. But I have heard some people get full overlay ads on mobile. I don't get those, but I know people have said they happen.

I am curious, are people getting regularly intrusive ads on mobile, and is it on the mobile app or browser (or both)?

Re: Ad Free Experience

I use laptop 95% of the time. On my iPhone the ads loading cause the page to skip and make typing difficult. Also struggle with running sims. So I don't. lol. Ads don't bother me at all on laptop.

Re: Re: Ad Free Experience

Yeah that's always been the case, as the ads load slow on mobile and if you try to click something too early, the whole screen shifts and you end up clicking something else. Hasnt everyone put someone on trade block they were trying to do something else with?

Re: Ad Free Experience

My experience is the same as described by Jimgriddy, revjeb and Yankeebb when I'm on my mobile. I primarily use a laptop because I think it's a superior experience.

Re: Re: Ad Free Experience

sometimes i go on the app but never use commish tools for the same fear

Re: Ad Free Experience

Same experience here as well. My guess is that the ads probably aren't properly optimized for mobile devices or something...

Re: Ad Free Experience

I am curious now… I assume it’s the first ad on top that’s the biggest issue? For me, 90% of the time the space reserved for the ad is already big enough so when it pops in, the page isn’t jumping around on me. I do notice a few times the page shifts but only slightly.

Are you all seeing something different? It helps to know because I might be able to make changes.

Re: Ad Free Experience

I've been getting full overlay ads on the mobile lately

Re: Ad Free Experience

Ugh. I hate those. Okay thanks for letting me know.

Re: Re: Ad Free Experience

I use both Mobile and desktop

I actually appreciate the streaming baseball news but I have noticed it causing Loading issues in some browsers on desktop.

On mobile... each time i navigate to a new page I have to close out all of the ads before I can really do anything. That includes the news loop you run also unfortunately.

I would be ok if the news loop included other sports updates also. Not saying you need to turn the site into ESPN or anything but you are branching out into other sports. I know some users who avoid sports news but they actually watch the news loop on this site. Its nice not having to explain current sports to people. :)

Re: Ad Free Experience

I like the baseball news feed - unless my Dodgers lost the night before !!

Re: Re: Ad Free Experience

@Vip okay that makes sense, yes I could see how depending on your mobile screen size it could be something that has to be closed out.

I have tried to get them to allow me to run more sports news, but I think the site just isn't big enough yet, they still only want to give me baseball.
