Defensive replacement?

Defensive replacement?

How does the sim determine if a player can be a defensive replacement? Is it based on fielding percentage or DWAR? Or both?

Re: Defensive replacement?

I believe it's both. But you have to mark them eligible on your lineup page to be a defensive sub and mark the player you want them to replace as eligible to be replaced. You just have to be careful with the fld % replacements. You may end up getting a player replaced with someone with a significantly lower Dwar if you keep them set them as being eligible to sub as a defensive replacement.

Re: Re: Defensive replacement?

Dwar has nothing to do with defensive replacements it's strictly Fielding % or if an Outfielder or Catcher a PLUS arm.

I had a team with 2) Negative 0.37 DWar OF's and one had a Plus Arm, the Plus arm would come in for the regular arm, but not the other way

So if your SS has a .975 Fielding % and your bench guy's Fielding % is worse, he won't come in.

Likewise if your starting 3B has a .958 Fielding percentage and a Plus 1.5 DWar - he could be replaced by a Negative DWar 3B with a .965 Fielding percentage

Re: Defensive replacement?

In the description at the bottom of the SB & Defensive Subs section it says "Subs will enter if they can play the position as their primary skill, and have a better fielding percentage or dWAR than the player they are replacing. In the case of catchers, a stronger arm will also be considered."

I have been able to get players with a higher dWAR to sub into the game even when they have a lower fielding percentage than the player they are replacing.

Re: Re: Defensive replacement?

That must be a change because it was not always like that, so I guess I stand corrected!

Re: Defensive replacement?

Dwar started factoring into defensive subs when dwar was first rolled out.

Re: Re: Defensive replacement?

Thanks Guy, I started playing when Range was still around so that makes perfect sense.

I think I had 1 team, my 1st when it was range
