Say It Aint So Joe...

Say It Aint So Joe...

We all have complaints about the umpiring in the history of MLB ,the tigers Armondo Gallaraga who lost his perfect game , DonDekinger in the world series etc. But please for the love of god don't go to robot umpires. I saw an ad today that said Rob M is considering it. What next , will we spin around a bat 10 times then race to first to decide home field advantage in the world series ? What's great about baseball is that it's perfect with it's imperfections. The human element is why we watch.

Re: Say It Aint So Joe...

To each his own, but I think the human element that makes baseball great is from the players. Will a guy come through in a clutch spot or will he pull a Buckner? That sort of thing. I don't watch for the human element of umps blowing calls. The calls should ideally reflect what the players actually do on the field, and if robo umps help that I'm all for it.

Re: Say It Aint So Joe...

I believe Adam Wainwright suggested using a challenge system similar to tennis for balls and strikes. I could see that working so there is a certain amount of human element still involved.

I’m not sure how many challenges you would want to allow but maybe something like that could be a happy medium. If a pitch is 6 inches off the plate and Angel Hernandez does his thing we should be allowed to fix that. The occasional pitch just on or off the plate I’m fine with leaving up to umpires
