What is lame about auto leaugues

What is lame about auto leaugues

Here I am offering the 2nd best Catcher in the the 90's leagues.. I do have the best C....
I simply need a DH...nobody reacts... Wilkins would make any team a solid contender...

people should be jumping on this offer....

I really think league chat should be on top of the league menu...would increase auto leagues interactions....

Re: What is lame about auto leaugues

Yeah that can be frustrating.
Part of the appeal of custom leagues for me is getting to know the other users. When you play multiple seasons together, you start to have some shared history and feel like you know the other users a bit. And that makes it easier to reach out when you want to make offers.

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

Yeah I have been thinking about ways to make the chat more obvious.

But, I really don't know that it's going to matter much in Auto Leagues. Long timers here remember lots of people asked for a long time to get the chat box added to the Auto Leagues. The assumption was the chatbox would result in more chatter, and it was finally added but is almost never used.

It's like Joining a public Fantasy Football League vs. a private one with your friends. The public ones are still fun and easy to get into, but there's zero dialogue.

Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

The chat box is so low, very few will get there ...
I personally dont get all the way down there...

But if it's the first thing you see... it can be a different ballgame...
morons like me are quite visual people....

maybe adding incentive for participating can be inviting at the end of the road...

an incentive such as players coming back from injury earlier by participating in chat or doing a transaction...

If we read an attractive rant about the 2nd best catcher of the league available on trade market instead of a robotic Kent HrBek 2RBI game leads the Filler no 2 team to victory...

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

I've made attempts - sometimes with a humorous or off the wall comment. Crickets.........

Re: What is lame about auto leaugues

I'll admit that I rarely (if ever) look at the boards in my auto leagues. Perhaps if there was an indicator on the league list page that there are new chat posts (similar to the indicator for global chat messages) then we would know to take a look at it? Not sure how much work that would be or how many others would find it valuable...

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

I really don't think many people pay much attention to Auto
leagues on a day to day basis, if they see an injury they probably will make an adjustment but besides that - like the Sheik said= crickets.

Definitely don't want to see injuries reduced, I would rather they were increased, both in length and occurrence, not advocating for guys to miss more games than they actually played but injuries are a real factor in a long season and should happen way more often.

Re: What is lame about auto leaugues

It's not really about it being lame or not. Auto leagues are more meant for those of us that are low maintenance - we don't exactly care as much about actual interaction outside of the occasional trade but care enough that we still want to draft our teams that we can manage in our own time, without a need to worry about salaries and different sets of intricate rules/schedules.

Over the last couple years, I've made the mistake of joining custom leagues while on a busy schedule and I ended up becoming inactive because it requires constant attention. (If you're a commish of one of those leagues, sorry)

Putting the chat box at the top would definitely be a start to increase interaction in auto leagues but that's mostly what custom leagues are for

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

Sometimes you can have to much interaction. Back in the 80's when I was stationed in Germany there was a game for the commodore 64 called micro league baseball. The replay feature on this game is the same as that game. There was a disk that allowed you to input any teams stats plus one that would compile the results. We would have tournaments where everone put in 10-20$ plus we were drinking. People got into actual fistfights over the games. A little too much interaction if you ask me.

Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

Can you even imagine how many fistfights there would be if we were all together in the same room playing PC? 😆

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

Plus alcohol plus money , you would need michael buffer to do the intro. For it's time c64 and micro league was pretty realistic as far as the replay , plus the fact that you could input any team with a street and smith guide.

Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

Better off sending it as a league message

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

What GR33 said is I think true for most Auto League participants.

That said, I think making chat more visible and accessible overall would help all leagues.

Re: What is lame about auto leaugues

I mostly compete in the auto leagues. Active everyday and checking my teams regularly, but not very active in chat.

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

I play in 16 custom leagues and 44 autos - I'm shifting to keeper only in the auto leagues except for the Fav Teams leagues I play.

Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

I play all autos, usually 2 or 3 teams at a time. Look at teams on a daily basis, but haven’t used chat but once. Rarely see it used.
Maybe a dumb question but curious, like I say I play 2 to 4 leagues at a time. The guys who are contributors and play 50 leagues, how can you look at all them daily beyond injuries? Wouldn’t that take a lot of time?

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

I am currently in 40 Auto leagues, I could go up to 50 without much of a problem.

In these leagues, there is no real micro management to be done.

So once you set up your team, its pretty much on auto pilot. Once in a while I will look at what happens...but most of the times I don't have to do anything...

I make sure my bench covers all the positions needed in case some injury happens...

Only couple of dates I have to look at afterwards,

game 13,14,15 to slump bust a hitter
game 30 and up to monitor if a pitcher needs slump bust
game 100 or so, for the second slump bust hitter of the season
game 140, to make sure my roster is set for the playoffs

at the game 30-40 mark, I should know if my roster needs a change or not...boost defense or boost offense, etc..

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

Yep. More or less how it goes. Just periodically check standings, roster status, and maybe some strategy. Make minor changes as you see fit and just go with the flow

Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

I still forgot that the supp draft and first couple of days of a season are important, to fill your weak spots and improve your bench (add speed, defense, positional needs, bullpen)...

Re: Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

I agree with everything PLP said - if there's a message on any league going forward, I take the time to check league transactions (sometimes good players are dropped) and re-evaluate my lineups. I will flag certain teams that I want to be more day-to-day with (underperforming teams). I actually keep a paper notepad for PC where I jot down reminders.

Re: What is lame about auto leaugue

I use the Notebook to remind myself when a player is due back from Injury so I can plug him back in my lineup and adjust my Batting Order.
