Old guys rule
According to pitcher Nick Altrock's player page, he last pitched regularly in the majors with the Washington Senators at the age of 41, but, for some reason, he threw another couple innings 6 years later at the age of 47. That same year, he got one AB, hitting a triple for a SLG AVG of 3.000 and an OPS of 4.000 for the year.
Five years later, at the age of 52, he got another plate appearance, again getting a hit his only time up that year, this time a single, but again, a 1.000 Batting Average for the year.
Another two years later, at the age of 54, he got another plate appearance, this time drawing a walk. A 1.000 OBP (and OPS) for the season. What a streak! Unfortunately, he tried to steal second and was thrown out. At age 54, I'm not surprised.
He had one more AB two years later, at the age of 56, but he couldn't keep his streak alive, going 0-1 on the season. At least he didn't get a chance to try to steal second again.
So, over a 9-year stretch, from 1924 to 1933, from the ages of 47 to 56, Altrock went 2-3 with a triple and a walk. That's a .667 (AVG), .750 (OBP), 1.333 (SLG), and 2.083 (OPS).
Bet you can't find anyone in MLB History with a better stat line over a 9-year period. Great job, Nick!
Oh, and he's also got one of the all-time ugliest mugs in baseball history. Check out his pic on Baseball Reference. He's no Sam West, that's for sure. Poor guy.
