stop messing with the game

stop messing with the game

Now I hear that mlb wants to put 7 teams per league in the playoffs. Why do they insist on making baseball like a video game.Hey,everyone gets a trophy now.and the mariners still wont make it

I think the worst part is having a television show with teams picking their opponents.

Re: Re: stop messing with the game

Nothing is worse than the NBA - Lebron James and The Greek freak picking their own All Star teams, that league panders so much to the players that it's frankly pathetic.

Re: stop messing with the game

I think it's a great idea. More teams stay in the hunt. Players will have more choices as FA of places to go to win. More teams are in it longer. Local fans stay more interested. Baseball attendance I on the decline. It is always changing. In the last 8 years only 1 team qualifying for the playoffs under tis format had 79 wins. The average was 84 for what would have been a 7th seed.
Fewer teams selling off players at deadline who have a chance to get in.

Re: Re: stop messing with the game

Oh yes- it's @#$%ing brilliant- let's devalue the regular season even more- hell, let's make it like the NHL where the President's Cup winner rarely wins the Stanley Cup, because the postseason essentially exists as an independent entity with nearly every team making the "tournament".

Better yet, let's just cancel the regular season-- I mean, who needs all those annoying meaningless games anyway? Or wait, I just had the best idea! Let's turn the baseball playoffs into March Madness, that'll work! 🙄

Re: stop messing with the game

Well, if nothing else, we know how Nap feels! LOL

Re: stop messing with the game

Oh boy, some of the ideas the MLB has been coming up have been halfway decent, but the vast majority of them are just utterly cringeworthy... ugh lol

Re: stop messing with the game

IMO, MLB should do one of 2 things, because I'm personally not a fan the one game playoff.

1. Go back to 4 playoff teams in each league.

Or

2. Add a 3rd wild card. Give the top 2 teams a first round bye and have the other 4 play in a pair of best of 3 series.

Re: stop messing with the game

It actually doesn't devalue the reg season at all.
#1 seed has bye and chooses their opponent after the first best of 3 where seeds 2.3.and4 hav all 3 at home. There is the incentive for those teams. More teams staying in it longer makes the regular season more meaningful to more teams for a longer period of time.

All you baseball purists out there, when did you become a purist?
Before the 2nd wild card? When there were 2 divisions in each league? Perhaps when it was one division in each league? Before pitching machines? Or maybe before integration? Exactly when did folks become purists. The game has always been changing and if it is going to survive in the main stream it will have to continue to change.

Re: stop messing with the game

Honestly Jim is kinda right seeing as how back in the late 1800s the rules were even more constantly in flux, so much so that they make the rule changes today look tame by comparison... Anyone heard of the term Pitcher's Box (the late 1800s precursor to the Pitcher's Mound we have today), or the fact that back then at some point a walk was achieved by a pitcher throwing 9 BALLS against the batter instead of today's 4 balls needed for the same feat? Jim is right, no matter how distasteful the rule changes appear, nothing is going to change the fact that said changes will happen regardless... It has frequently happened before, it can certainly happen now... I don't like the changes either, but they will happen whether I, or anyone else, like them or not. Just my two cents

Re: Re: stop messing with the game

just go back to 1969 the rules were changed to lower the pitching mound to its current height
so to help raise batting averages as pitchers dominated the game in every sense the previous season

Re: stop messing with the game

Exactly, hence the phrase "1968 - Year of the Pitcher"

Re: Re: stop messing with the game

the DH rule came in as well. It will probably be in NL as well eventually. The game is still pitch and swing and catch and throw and run. The basic doesn't change. Kinda like getting old and taking supplements to keep going, lol.
