DWar

DWar

Question about DWar. I have a league with basically no rules where the object is to lose. So owners drafted low hitting, poor fielding, low DWar players and play them all out of position.

But what I'm seeing is that if you play a player out of position, their DWar is switched to 0. So even though Lucas Duda carries a -2.24 DWar as an outfielder, he gets a 0 DWar at 2nd base.

Granted he plays second base terribly and makes a lot of errors. But strangely he gets to more balls than he would at his regular position.

Is that right?

Re: DWar

I think it’s meant to be that positive dwar changes to zero. Seems like a problem if the negatives are improving.

Re: Re: DWar

Seems like a simple change - if DWar greater than 0 and player out of position then make it 0 else leave it as is. It's actually disappointing in our league because we want our players to give up more hits.

Some other interesting notes that I've learned (maybe everyone knew this):

If you have a catcher in your lineup and a non-catcher is playing catcher - the sim switches their positions automatically. This is the only position where this happens.

If you have steal settings at 0 and there is a non-catcher playing catcher on the other team, your team will steal (usually successfully).

Shut down stealing when trailing by (however many runs) seems to work even if a non-catcher is playing catcher (if the parameters are met).

Re: DWar

Kelly thanks. Yes the dwar should be an easy fix. The stealing when trailing probably was never noticed because I suspect teams are rarely trailing in typical games when a non catcher is back there.

The catcher swap I believe has been there for some time. That one came up years ago when a few people accidentally had their catcher at the wrong position and didn’t notice for a while. When that happens games get out of whack. You could argue they should be punished for not fixing their lineup, and that’s true, but the penalty is mostly there to punish people who are intentionally trying to sandbag. The swap just helps games not go haywire.

Re: Re: DWar

if any of these get "fixed" please let us know when, as we would have to adjust our lineups to maximize losing lol

Re: DWar

The catcher swap I don't plan to "fix" - that will remain.

The other two are fixed, although I'm still shutting down steals entirely after a 7 run score differential, which is higher than the manager settings allow for.

Kelly, you'll want to inform your Losers League so they know what's up.

Re: Re: DWar

Awesome thanks so much Guy!

Re: DWar

Hey Guy - just a quick follow up - we haven't seen a single negative dwar play from players playing out of position yet. Here's the league in case it helps https://www.pennantchase.com/lgHome..
Thanks!

Re: Re: DWar

Thanks, I missed one of the places this gets modified - should start working now, let me know if not...

Re: DWar

We are now getting negative Dwar plays for players out of position. Thanks, as always, gbacci. You are the #1 website chief in the world, though probably not compensated as such.

Bizarro League Review: If you're a PC vet and want to snort a perfectly safe mind-altering substance, try to play a season in krtyler's Bizarro league. All the strategies you have used for years are flipped on their heads. Watching a game to see if your losing strategies are working is like a low-dose trip.

Negative Dwar added in will make the highs higher and the negatives fantastic.

Re: Re: DWar

Can I be put on the waiting list?

Re: DWar

So does positive dwar now move to zero if a player is out of position for the whole site? Does that also apply to secondary positions? I remember reading some suggestions on here earlier but I missed it, if it was changed.

Re: Re: DWar

If a player with a positive Dwar is completely out of position, Dwar will drop to zero.

If a player with a negative Dwar is completely out of position, Dwar will not change. (This is the change gbacci just made).

If a player is playing his secondary position, Dwar will not change. This is true of a positive Dwar and a negative Dwar.

Examples:
● 3B(C) with a plus-2 Dwar. When playing in the OF, this 3B(C) will sim as a zero Dwar. When playing at catcher, this 3B(C) will sim as a plus-2 Dwar.

● 3B(C) with a negative-2 Dwar: When playing in the OF, this 3B(C) will sim as a negative-2 Dwar. When playing at catcher, this 3B(C) will sim as a negative-2 Dwar.

This is how the sim currently handles Dwar in all leagues.
