Am I missing something?

Am I missing something?

WAR Budget league, someone with a SF Giants build somehow winds up with a Negro Leagues player. Aren't those guys normally unusable in those leagues? I'm so confused. How the heck did this happen?

Re: Am I missing something?

I looked at that today too haven't quite figured that one out either

Re: Am I missing something?

Who is the player?

Re: Re: Am I missing something?

If you look at the transaction page you'll see that he was a Free Agent pickup.

Re: Am I missing something?

Sheik, Negro Leagues players aren't able to be drafted in WAR Budget Leagues. That's why I'm so confused as to how he wound up in the FA market in the first place

And Jim, it's the player in the link. Oscar Charleston. Negro Leagues OF/1B back in the 1920s and 30s

Re: Re: Am I missing something?

I think the FA's are just kind of random - you would have to ask Guy about how that's determined for WAR Budget leagues. He was definitely
picked up as a FA though.

Re: Am I missing something?

Never said that wasn't the case, bud. That was one of the first things I checked after seeing him. What I was questioning was how he got there in the first place

Re: Am I missing something?

Shouldn’t be ANY FA’s in budget leagues, IMO. Talk about defeating the purpose…

Re: Re: Am I missing something?

Agreed Rev. Especially with trading being disabled

Re: Am I missing something?

"This is a special format with NO TRADES. The idea is to play with franchise players. In baseball only, there will be some low-quality free agents to account for injuries."

Not sure Charleston qualifies as "low quality" with his speed and OPS.

Re: Re: Am I missing something?

Probably because his WAR is inexplicably set to 0 for both offensive and defensive WAR (likely just a database error)

Re: Am I missing something?

Thanks, I will fix this WAR, but also I should add some logic to not have the random FAs be from the negro leagues.

Re: Am I missing something?

Thanks gbacci!
