Re: Re: Split Season?

Re: Re: Split Season?

The likelihood of any type of 2020 season is microscopic.

Travel restriction, distancing restrictions revolving throughout the country, the commitment to no games w/o fans in the park all point to a time best spent by owners and union working on avoiding that dreadful 'work stoppage' word.

I would love to be wrong here as I work for one of the teams (nothing sexy - but still a fun gig). I am NOT in the know of any top-secret info on this. Just going by everything I see.

Re: Split Season?

I'd rather see it cancelled than turned into a joke. The actual game (and true fan) deserves better than that.

Re: Split Season?

My guesses.....I think April will only going get worse for virus spread, with early May being peak. Things may start getting back to normal around end of June or early July, but still with restrictions.

Can't see any of these sports leagues cancelling their postseason as a result. There is simply too much money involved and these owners are greedy. Can see no fans or limited amount of fans (5,000) permitted at games.

Re: Re: Split Season?

The current plan (subject to change) is to try for a 100 game season going into novermber and the possibility of neutral (warm weather) site playoffs,WS. But who knows?

Re: Split Season?

I have a sinking feeling that baseball, my favorite sport, will not be played this year.
That would also cause an issue for the owners, how do they pay players with no income coming.
Does everyone get another year of service even without playing.
Bigger issues in the country other than these, but will be interesting to see what happens.

Re: Re: Split Season?

MLB and union already answered your second question: Yes, they will be awarded service based on a formula.

As for the poor billionaires who can't afford to pay their workers and/or minor league players...I have no sympathy there. Nor should you as long as they are charging $15 for a cold Bud Light.

Re: Re: Split Season?

Nightmare scenario for my Dodgers: season is cancelled, Mookie gets service time for the season, exercises his option and signs with another team. Result - Dodgers pay Betts for a season and we never see him play in a game for them.
