Your Take: MLB Season beyond Labor Day

Your Take: MLB Season beyond Labor Day

Do you see 2020 season getting past Labor Day before shutting down?

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond Labor

Absolutely. They'll make it thru 60 games and a postseason. Lots of bodies to throw at the field, with the minor leaguers.

I wouldn't be betting on favorites, though, as who knows who will lose players to COVID, and who knows which players will lose their focus due to COVID-related issues with families.

But, MLB will finish the season and postseason, because billionaires and millionaires have decided that's what they have to do for their businesses.

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond Labor

They will finish. There will be a rotating number of players (like Soto now) that will get COVID, wait a week to 10 days, and test back in. There will be a lot of 10-day DLs.

I don't think the owners will want to shut down now that they "forced" the players to play their 60 game schedule.

As of last week, 80 players have already tested positive and they are still starting the season. With those numbers, they would have canceled if they were going to IMO

The 16-team playoffs will be fun, so I really hope most squads get there intact.

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

yeah the extra playoff teams make sense
the mets better get another pitcher!

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Metsnfins,

Maybe I should have been more specific. I was talking actual MLB, not fantasy leagues. Adding another pitcher to the Mets roster would just result in one more good pitcher sitting at home come playoff time.

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

They should of followed the MLS,NBA,NHL,creating bubbles Cities is the way to go... travelling is quite an additional risk.... COVID cases are going to pop constantly... where once everybody is install in that bubble, risk is pretty much lowered... MLS as proven it as of now... a lot of cases at the beginning, but now they are running without anymore cases for a while since the buble is installed...

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond Labor

It will finish, to much TV dollars involved for the playoffs.

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Yes DJ lemauhieu got co vid like 20 days ago and is now playing today the yanks lost though t😰👎

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Guess what... Marlins plane delayed, at least 4 players tested positive to covid-19... this is going to get ugly...

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Not too surprising a team based in FL is one of the first of note. This has ripple effects at both the ballpark and in the city.

This will be watched closely as state/local gov't decide if/when to put up the stop sign.

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

16 Marlins cases (and counting). No decision yet on status of Philly-NYY games over next two days. Not any info as yet on Philly player's tests.

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

I guess, it's getting ugly even faster that I tought... refusing to play in bubble cities, having teams to travel was just plain ridiculous...

If any other sports needed guinea pigs, MLB proudly raised their arms.

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Marlins Os postponed. Safe to say, scratch the season after this week?

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

A lot of issues: Time delay on tests results, lack of transparency of info on results, lack of time to thoroughly disinfect between series, spread/containment issues within hotels/city, lack of single national protocol to allow for comfort in dealing with intersectional travel.

I know the 'bubble concept' is popular for some and it may work for a playoff system. But players would not accept a 'season' of forced confinement.

Catch games while you can.

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Since the Phils-Yanks are scheduled for 2 in NY on Wed/Thu, I expect the Mon/Tues games to be moved there as well. Minimize the chances for exposure an allow for a thorough cleaning.

Not an optimistic picture for 2020 or 2021 w/o vaccines in place (for any of the major sport's season play).

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Really not surprised to be honest, one of the real issues is in many cases you are dealing with young single guys who feel bullet proof and lack discipline, they simply cannot suppress their needs and baser desires, they are selfish and or dumb or don't care.

(I have a Funeral to go to, but afterwards just had to pick up some chicken wings, at a strip Club)

10 days isolation? he should forfeit the balance of his salary and be under contract to his team and unable to be signed by another without compensation as punishment- He knew the rules and chose to ignore them, granted that was Basketball, but the guy is 33 and should know better

With Baseball players traveling, contagion was an obvious outcome.

this whole endeavor was an exercise in futility

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

The probability rate for this happening was out the roof. Good luck NFL........

BTW - Yankees/Phillies postponed .

- The Sheik

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings have announced that their Infection Control Officer has tested positive for coronavirus

An early NFL case of irony.

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Either they like to play russian roulette or If the objective is to obtain collective - herd immunity, MLB has the perfect receipe!

MLS, UFC are currently succeeding. Pretty sure NBA and NHL will to...

as for the MLB and NFL... pretty doubtfull...

I am holding on my MLB.tv subscription for now....

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Marlins up to 20 now and two Cardinals just tested positive.........

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond Labor

PGA has had limited issues as well (easier to social distance).

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

Golf without spectators should be fairly easy to stay Virus free - also Hockey, they don't handle the Puck. They wear gloves, face shields, and the cold should kill some too

Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

They just won't be able to take their gloves off for fights. Or, they can fight, then sanitize.

Re: Re: Your Take: MLB Season beyond L

UFC suceeded, couple of positive tests, but they isolate quick...

Pretty much the same with boxing...

MLS had some issue early, but once the bubble is installed, it seems pretty safe now.

NBA hadissues early, unless some idiots go for some chiken wings at a strip club, and respect the bubble... everything should be oK.

Same deal with NHL... early cases, but everything is secured under the bubble...

MLB wanted to ignore the bubble and get guys to travel, etc... they wanted to challenge darwinism, and they failed... it's has nothing to do about players wanted or not to be confined for 60 + days... there is pretty much one way to go, you either go with it or not,and accept the concequences of the stupid and well known risks taken...
