Unlucky?

Unlucky?

Just finishing up my first season... very enjoyable despite finishing just under 500 and out of the playoffs. But I can't help but notice that every player on my team hit below their historic average and every pitcher threw below their historic ERA. And I'm not exaggerating... every single player. Was this unlucky or a common occurrence?

Re: Unlucky?

Common. Think of the player pool they are competing against. It's not 30 teams from one year with 4th and 5th starters, it's all stars after all stars in a concentrated league. Also, players will fluctuate a bit, so down years and break outs happen at random.

Here's a simple yet unrealistic example:
If you had 9 Babe Ruth's on your team and faced Pedro Martinez everyday, everyone cant meet their numbers, its impossible, so each will give a bit based on their impact.

Re: Unlucky?

It's common I believe. It's because the league is made up of only 12 teams featuring the best players from all of MLB. So your pitchers are facing much better hitting than they would in a normal real life scenario and likewise your batters are facing much tougher pitching every game. From what I have seen in my leagues, it's rare for a player to do better than their real life stats due to this.

Re: Unlucky?

That makes a ton of sense... thanks!
