End of an era.......
The Texas Rangers are at Oakland on Thursday in the last A's game at the Oakland Coliseum. Generally considered to to be one of the worst parks in the MLB, it's been the A's home for the last 57 years. With there eventual move to Las Vegas, via Sacramento, the A's will become the 1st franchise to play in 4 different cities - Philadelphia, Kansas City, Oakland and Las Vegas.

It's the Capital of California - but only a temporary home for the A's while their stadium is being built in Vegas - just like Buffalo was to Toronto during Covid. I guess I should have said "1st team to have 4 permanent home cities".

In 2007 I went to San Fran but saved money by flying to Oakland and taking the BART. The bart stop is right outside the coliseum , the A's were playing the redsox that day. I saw people leaving the game and asked a guy " who won ? " He told me that curt schilling had a no hitter going. I asked him why would you leave a nohitter. He told me that you don't want to be around this stadium at night time. Crime ridden city that is falling apart and a stadium to match.

The A's will play three full seasons in Sacramento, so that might end up qualifying as a "city" on their resume.

Final game is being played now (day game) before a sell-out crowd. Barry Zito sang the National Anthem !!

I have heard many a story from former mlb and nfl players who are now announcers that go into the locker rooms and see the same amenities that were there during their playing days. Switching cities will not help , like the Mariners ,the A's biggest problem has always been ownership. Sad because from 1971 to 2020 this team has won 4 world series , 6 pennants and made the playoffs 21 times , nothing to sneeze at. I know there will never be a salary cap but maybe mlb should implement a salary floor ?
