Win PCT%

Win PCT%

What would you guys consider a good winning percentage? .550? .500? I'm talking about auto leagues here

Re: Win PCT%

1.000.

Re: Win PCT%

a ring.

Re: Re: Win PCT%

it's hard to say Gordo. People who have some understanding of PC and participate in drafts, set lineups, set slump buster, should be able to be at least .500 in auto leagues over the long haul. If owners are below that and play a lot, it's typically because they're stretched thin and not paying attention to their teams.
So I think win% tells a bit of a story for users with low win % but not necessarily the whole story for users with high win %. Some users just run out the same favorite teams winning combo all the time or play a single player pool to contribute to their high win %. Not a criticism - if that's what they enjoy then great. But it doesn't necessarily mean that those users are brilliant sabermetricians or anything like that :)

Re: Win PCT%

It can vary depending on why you play the game. Some people like to experiment (different leagues, different strategies, etc.). Some like to just see how their favorite players perform.

Some find a 'formula' and stick with it; others get bored and look for other formulas. Some get hooked on seeing their id on a top 50 board. They seem to max leagues and churn games played. Some limit their leagues more but get more involved in the game to game aspect.

That said, there is something there for everyone. You find what makes it interesting for you and play until it doesn't. Personal records/stats are only there if you find those things interesting. I wouldn't get too hung up on their value.

Top of the Leader Board and $1.50 still buys you a small coffee at Starbucks !! 😎

Re: Win PCT%

What Starbucks are you going too? $1.50 wont buy me the cup the coffee comes in! And I know, I love it, lol.

I guess it's been a while since I went to a Starbucks !!! 😮

Re: Win PCT%

To refer back to some of what krytler was saying--or how I'm interpreting it--winning percentage can give you a sense of how much of an understanding of PC you have.
I ran up a bad percentage for a while when I started. This was before rank existed, and for a while I didn't know that if you pulled down the "history" tab in an auto league you could see the leaders in major categories. It was mostly before dwar, too.

As I picked up very specific concepts about both auto and custom leagues I saw my winning pct. go up--looking at a current year's % after maybe April or May can be useful in this way.

I think that your recent (and overall) pct. can give you a sense of whether or not you're getting what some of the veterans and leaders and lifetime 58% people are getting. If you can go a year above, say, 54, you must be getting some of the key concepts on how to evaluate players, which order to pick them in, how to use park dimensions etc.
Therefore, I think people struggling for a time should read the boards, ask a veteran for help, ask specific questions about specific teams, etc. I would've been spinning my tires without doing that, and I'm far, far better than I was about 18 months ago.

Re: Re: Win PCT%

As it was said, it depends on what you are looking for here. There are some who play auto leagues favorite teams and use nothing but the best franchises and drive their pct. up. Some like to experiment with the lesser franchises and their overall pct suffers.
In custom leagues I got way behind while learning. I have a little over 17,000 games and .496 win pct. I am about 150 games below .500.
I have to play .600 over 17,000 to get to .550%.
If winning % is important to you, don't join leagues where you are taking over a crappy team. And just play favorite teams with the historically strong franchises.
If it's not important to you, take up the challenge of a rebuild or play franchises like Miami and KC who are harder to win with.
You can get whatever you want out of PC. It all depends on your own goals and what is fun for you.
Winning % is to be taken with a grain of salt. Dont get me wrong, there are some awesome players here who deserve their high % because of their knowledge and dedication to game play and detail.
It wont be etched on your tomb stone so don't sweat it. Unless you will it there! lol

Re: Win PCT%

I’ve actually rebuilt a couple of teams, which is good. That’s why my percentage is only .550. Again, I’ve also taken really good teams. Thanks for everybody’s feedback!
