Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Great series the Dodgers had. Not sure how the Yankees could possibly explain that defense, but Dodgers earned it.
Re: Re: Dodgers WS Champions
I think it's safe to say that Freddie Freeman needs to keep his calendar open about 10 years from now to go to upstate NY and make a 30 minute speech .
Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Congrats Dodgers. That 5th inning was about the worst defense I have seen in a world series game.
That said, the dodgers won and Ohtani, May, and Glasnow didn't pitch at all. What would they look like with a full staff?
Re: Re: Dodgers WS Champions
The 1st 4 innings of that game, the Yankees looked like they were going to take the Dodgers to the wood shed - baseball is a funny game; can change on a dime. Cole pitched a hell of a game and Judge was starting to look like Judge again (except on defense) - I really didn't want to see a game 6 !! And like Treinan said after the game, Buehler officially became a Bullpen Dawg.

Re: Dodgers WS Champions
The reason even I had basically given up when I heard LA had a 3-0 series lead is because only one other team has come back from such a deficit in MLB history (and only 5 times in total in PROFESSIONAL SPORTS history for that matter, with the one MLB example and 4 NHL examples)
Yep, I'm talking about the 2004 ALCS. The epic collapse by the Yankees that sent the Red Sox on the path to win the world series for the first time in over 8 decades
God it pains me to even think about that one lol
Re: Dodgers WS Champions
The Yankees are a seriously flawed team. No way they were winning the World Series no matter who they played from the National League. And unfortunately, Aaron Judge is building a legacy of choking in the playoffs.
Re: Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Totally disagree Steven. The Yanks may be flawed, but no different than every other team in MLB. No perfect teams out there anywhere as far as I can see. And it all comes down to a play here and a pitch there when you're in the playoffs. And sometimes some nerves. And injuries (some of which we know about and others which we don't). Lots of teams wish they were as flawed as the Yankees this year. They had a good chance against anyone, but it didn't go their way for a multitude of reasons. And if Cole had covered first on that play, we could be going to a game 6 tomorrow.
Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Schooler1 - you forgot the 4 NBA teams, total of 9 in 3 major sports.
Re: Dodgers WS Champions
My bad Sheik. I was going based off of this:
"Coming back from a 3-0 postseason deficit is rare in all sports.
It's never been done in the NBA. Four teams in NHL history have managed to do so: the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs, 1975 New York Islanders, 2010 Philadelphia Flyers and the 2014 Los Angeles Kings."
Taken from this website:
https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/new..
I actually never knew of the most recent 2 NHL examples till I read about that. Until then I only was aware of the previous 2 NHL examples from '42 and '75
Re: Re: Dodgers WS Champions
@Schooler: you're correct; no NBA team has overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven to win. The four NBA teams referenced are ones that have forced game sevens.
If we're counting those, then the NHL total is higher--the Edmonton Oilers did this just a few months ago.
Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Yeah I see how my wording could easily cause confusion as to what I meant. I was indeed referring to what ace said: by "come back from a 0-3 deficit", I meant to come back AND win the series
Re: Re: Dodgers WS Champions
I stand corrected skooler - 4 NBA teams have forced a game 7, but didn't win.

Re: Dodgers WS Champions
No one has ever even reached a game 6 in the World Series after going down 3-0. Sox did it in a playoff series not. World Series. As a matter of fact only 4 teams have ever won game 4 after falling behind 3-0.
This was the 25th time a team was up 3-0 in the Series. 21 have been sweeps. The other 4 all ended in game 5. That is crazy!
Re: Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Wow, I'm actually kind of shocked by that stat. I guess it speaks to the power of momentum !
Re: Dodgers WS Champions
This is why Jim Griddy, I apply a Martingale betting system on a team leading 3-0 in a playoff series ! And print money out of it !.
On the other end, how can a pitcher not cover 1B in a WS like Gerrit Cole did baffles my mind.
Since I was 8 years old or even less, I covered every single ball hit to the right side, in the WS, he should of, even more so !
Why was that dude Pointing at Rizzo ?
Gerrit Cole is an absolute donkey ! This was the equivalent of the Lonnie Smith bad base running in 1991....
Re: Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Judge dropping an easy fly ball to start the inning too. You can see his eyes on the replay. They are on the infield for some reason before the ball gets to his glove.
And yes Volpe could have done better than a Steve Sax throw to 3rd. But come on. Chisholm is a 3rd baseman. He couldn't make a play and field that ball on the hop? Very bad all the way around. All 3 plays are spring training stuff.
Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Biggest mistake is Judge not being a centerfielder...
Yankees can't afford a true Center Fielder ???
Re: Re: Dodgers WS Champions
Did you hear ? Judge is going to be at Times Square on New Years Eve to drop the ball LOL !!
